In Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Data Integration, an Application is a container for runtime objects where Tasks are published, run, and monitored. Users can create Applications based on their business, teams, or projects organization. For example, in some use cases, it might be required to create multiple Applications per Project and in such case, only a specific project code is being published to the corresponding Application. For a detailed understanding of Applications, refer to – https://docs.cloud.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/data-integration/using/applications.htm

We can create new Applications by clicking on “Create Application” in the Workspace Home page from the Quick Actions tile or on the Applications page. Applications are at the Workspace level and can be accessed from the Workspace home page or by clicking on the “+” button in Workspaces.

After clicking on “Create Application”, a new tab will appear in which you can enter its Application Name, Identifier, and its Description.

Once the Application “Application_Sales” is created users will land in the Application details page.

Let us now understand the components in the newly created Application “Application_Sales”.

Tasks

We can Publish the Task i.e. Data Loader Task and/or Integration Task from the Projects/Folders under the Tasks section.

Once published we can see all the published Tasks under Applications. The list of tasks on an Application Details page shows the tasks published to this Application i.e. “Application_Sales”. Following Actions can be performed for each Task,

  • View Details – You can view its most recently published details in read-only mode.
  • Run – To execute the Task.
  • Copy Task Key – APIs require Task key and “Copy Task Key” is the way to get it.
  • Unpublish – Unpublish the Task and removes it from this Application

Patches

After the Tasks are published, they can be seen under Patches. A Patch contains updates to published tasks in an Application. You can find a list of patches on the Application Details page. There are two types of updates: Publish and Unpublish. When you publish or unpublish a task, a Patch is created.

Task Runs

After running the Tasks, all the executions can be seen under Task Runs. Task Runs displays the history of tasks that you ran.

You can also delete an Application from the Applications page. Deleting an Application permanently deletes it and the resources it contains. Once deleted, the Application cannot be restored.
