To help our customers become cloud ready and validate their cloud skills, we launched the first-ever Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate certification in January 2018. In May, we released a study guide and a practice exam to help our customers prepare for the certification. Hundreds of customers are embarking on the certification journey, and the feedback has been great.
To help you with this journey, we are introducing a series of interviews with Oracle employees, partners, and customers who have successfully passed the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2018 Architect Associate exam. These interviews will provide strategies to help you prepare for the exam.
To kick of the series, I spoke with Umair Siddiqui, who has over 17 years of industry experience spanning cloud computing, network function virtualization, software-defined networking, customer enablement, professional services, and product management. Currently, Umair works for Oracle as part of the Product Management team focused on customer enablement.
Greg: Umair, how did you prepare for the certification?
Umair: While I already had cloud experience, I had to ramp up my knowledge on OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure). I watched the available eLearnings, Service Intro, Just in Time, I Built It in the Cloud videos, Business Essentials videos, and Fundamentals training. I watched all of the videos for a high-level overview and then read up on the OCI documentation. I highly recommend that you get the $300 free promo account. That is the first thing I did. Using the demo account, I set my own learning objectives, such as creating and deploying an application using load balancing. I practiced through the actual deployment.
I also read the documentation at docs.oracle.com, which provided me with more focused information on topics such as Terraform and Database as a Service.
Greg: How is life after getting certified?
Umair: One thing I like about OCI certification is that I got the digital badge almost instantaneously after clearing the certification. I displayed my digital badge on various social media platforms where I received “a lot of congrats, a lot of thumbs-up.” Having passed the exam not only helped me validate my own skills on OCI but has also established me as an OCI practitioner in the industry. I have observed that people come to me for their questions about OCI and advice on how to prepare for certification. This has increased my desire to dive deeper into learning more about Oracle’s cloud offerings.
