Oracle Essbase 26ai: Installation and Configuration for On-Premises Deployments

With an updated installer, refreshed platform stack, and clear migration planning considerations, Essbase 26ai helps organizations keep existing Essbase deployments current while preserving operational control.

Some organizations have regulatory, data residency, integration, or operational requirements that make customer-managed environments the right choice. Essbase 26ai supports that need while also giving customers flexibility to evaluate Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Marketplace deployment where appropriate. 

Choose the deployment path that fits your strategy 

Essbase 26ai supports two deployment paths: 

  • OCI Marketplace deployment: Customers can use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Marketplace for a guided cloud deployment experience. Marketplace migration is automatic. 
  • On-premises deployment: Customers can use the updated installer and configuration flow for customer-managed Essbase environments. On-premises upgrade planning should account for an out-of-place migration path. 

This flexibility helps customers choose the deployment model that fits their infrastructure roadmap, operational requirements, and modernization timing. 

Updated on-premises installation path 

For on-premises customers, Essbase 26ai includes an updated installer and configuration flow aligned with a refreshed technology stack. This gives administrators a path to deploy Essbase in customer-managed environments while moving forward from older platform dependencies. 

The updated installation path is especially important for organizations with mature Essbase environments that support planning, forecasting, reporting, close, profitability analysis, or other business-critical analytics workflows. 

Refreshed platform stack 

Essbase 26ai on-premises deployment is aligned with a refreshed platform foundation. Target platform planning includes: 

  • JDK 17 
  • Fusion Middleware 14 
  • Oracle Database 19c and 26ai 
  • SQL Server 2022 and later 
  • Oracle Linux 8 and 9 
  • Windows Server 2022 and 2025 

Administrators should validate exact versions, prerequisites, patch levels, and certification details against the official Essbase 26ai installation documentation before deployment. 

Plan for out-of-place migration 

On-premises deployment planning should account for out-of-place migration. Customers should review their current Essbase environment, target platform requirements, applications, integrations, security model, automation, and operational procedures before beginning the upgrade.

Note on EAS Console

Essbase 26ai continues the transition away from legacy Essbase Administration Services management console. The EAS-managed application flag is removed from the code and user interface for on-premises 26ai application management. 

Customers can use the new Redwood web UI and Excel based Cube Designer interfaces to manage and maintain 26ai applications. 

Python-based MCP capability for AI-assisted Essbase operations

Essbase 26ai customers with independent, customer-managed deployments can add a Python-based Model Context Protocol (MCP) server through the oracle-data-studio package. It enables MCP-compatible AI assistants to interact with Essbase through controlled tools for activities such as exploring applications and databases, browsing outlines, querying data, running calculations and data loads, retrieving logs, and selected administration tasks. The MCP server requires Python 3.10 or later and is installed separately with pip install oracle-data-studio[mcp].

For governance, customers can use viewer (read-only), analyst (query and execution), or admin access profiles, and should validate credentials, HTTPS certificates, network exposure, audit logging, and approval controls before enabling write-capable operations in production. This Python-based option gives on-premises customers flexibility to introduce AI-assisted Essbase operations within their own infrastructure and security model. Essbase 26ai gives on-premises customers a practical path forward with an updated installer, refreshed platform stack, and migration planning guidance. It helps organizations keep critical Essbase environments current while maintaining the control and deployment flexibility their business requires.
