Requirements for Generating a Star Schema

If you want to build a well-designed star schema, apart from technical skills, you need to have a good understanding of dimensional modeling principles, have patience for a detailed setup process, and have sufficient experience to avoid the pitfalls that arise later in a slow query or a report that doesn’t quite reconcile.

Guided Star Schema Generation

Guided star schema generation is a new customization feature designed to help you easily customize your semantic model. An AI-assisted, guided experience helps you build the logical stars faster and more consistently, allowing you to make your decisions.

Guided star schema generation acts as a knowledgeable collaborator: interpreting what you need, proposing a path forward, and working along with you to confirm or adjust every step along the way.

The AI assistance offers:

  • Alignment – Translates your requirements into relevant schema suggestions.
  • Streamlining – Reduces low-level design effort so that you quickly customize.
  • Accuracy – Suggests recommendations for you to review and confirm before generating the final star.
  • Consistency – Ensures that the dimensional modeling principles are applied.

Steps in the Guided Flow

The guided flow breaks star creation into six clear steps:

  1. Identify Requirement –You select the fact table and provide the context.
  2. Interpret Context -The system proposes relevant entities and dimensions based on the context.
  3. Confirm Direction – You confirm or modify the suggested entities.
  4. Preview Joins – An LLM suggests the dimensional joins for your review.
  5. Adjust Joins – You add, delete, or modify joins as required.
  6. Generate Star – The system creates the final star once everything is confirmed.

At every stage, you see what’s proposed before building.  Nothing is generated behind the scenes without a checkpoint.

Design of the AI Assistance

The underlining design principle is simple; this is an assistive AI that supports better decisions and collaborates with user’s decisions. The experience is deliberately built to maintain a balance between control and delegation:

  • Candidate dimensions are previewed before joins are generated.
  • You can add, delete, or modify joins before you confirm the final star.
  • Every recommendation is a suggestion, and you decide what you need for the model.

The result is a customization experience that moves at AI speed while still reflecting your decisions. A true partnership between guided intelligence and hands-on expertise.

Generating a Star Schema with AI assistance

  1. Open the Semantic Model Extensions page in Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence Console.
  2. On the selected sandbox Details page, click Perform Action, select Manage Logical Star, and then select Create Logical Star.
  3. On the Logical Star page, click Auto Generate Logical Star.
  4. Use AI-assisted navigation.

Follow the assisted navigation for specifications for the star schema.

  • Review the selected dimensions and their join columns, then click Finish to generate the star schema.

You can edit and extend the generated star schema as required.

Generation Supports Adoption

This simple solution extends the semantic model shipped with Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence and enables you to use custom content.

  • Accelerates time to insight.
  • Promotes reuse of prebuilt and governed assets and extending assets.
  • Reduces dependency on administrators and experts

Roll Out Generation as Part of Enablement

To maximize impact, save time, and improve efficiency, introduce the guided star schema generation in semantic model extensions as a part of your Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence enablement plan rather than building individual dimensions and facts.

Summary

Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence provides organizations a strong foundation of prebuilt content along with a strong extensible platform. Natural language interaction with the platform leverages AI to do the modeling, making it robust and performant.
