On March 14, 2024, the Oracle Nigeria office in Lagos saw an influx of young minds eager to explore the world of technology firsthand. Twenty-eight enthusiastic secondary school students and their guardians from Global Challenge High School, Ajegunle, Lagos, embarked on a journey of learning and discovery.

The day kicked off with a presentation by Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub Saharan Africa, on Oracle Academy, Oracle’s global philanthropic initiative in education. She highlighted the mission, history, membership benefits, full curriculum, career and learning resources of the program to all attendees. Later, the mentorship sessions led by Oracle Volunteers Adeola Adenubi, Cloud Systems Master Principal Solution Engineer, and Omolara Ajayi, Regional VAD Manager, provided invaluable insights into the world of technology, offering the students a glimpse into various career paths and opportunities that await in the ever-evolving tech industry.

From software development to digital marketing to engineering, the mentors shared their personal experiences, career journeys, and the importance of continuous learning in the fast-paced world of technology. The children listened as they absorbed every word spoken by their mentors.

Following the mentorship sessions, the highlight of the day was a lively question and answer session where the students had the opportunity to interact directly with the Oracle Volunteers. They eagerly asked questions ranging from the latest tech trends to career advice, displaying a keen interest in understanding the dynamics of the tech industry.

Beyond the technical aspects, the message conveyed by the mentors throughout the day was clear: education, determination, and dreaming big are the keys to unlocking a world of endless possibilities. The students were encouraged to be studious in their academics so they could become the problem solvers and technology innovators of tomorrow.

The visit served as a reminder to the students that with upskilling, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge, they can achieve anything they set their minds to in the exciting world of technology.

Many thanks to the Oracle Volunteers Adeola and Omolara who dedicated their time and expertise to imparting knowledge to this next generation of technology innovators!
