For the first time in its almost 20-year presence in Serbia, the Oracle Belgrade office opened its doors to host attendees of Oracle Academy Days, a yearly event established in 2008 in Serbia. After hosting the Oracle Academy Days in various hotels in Belgrade, this year Oracle Academy staff hosted the engaging event in the Oracle office. Three separate events accommodated educators’ busy schedules and enabled all interested to join in one.

Approximately half of the participants were already Oracle Academy members, and the other half were educators without previous experience with Oracle Academy, who were familiarizing themselves with the Oracle Academy program and its free technology education resources.

The events this year had various speakers, covering different topics. Prof. dr Milena Vujošević Janičić, Principal Researcher and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, spoke on “The role and influence of teachers on the future of young people – how can we do better together?” She explained that educators transfer much more than just knowledge to their students, but also motivation, support in building self confidence, a willingness and desire to learn and develop their potential, and more. Moreover, it is important that teachers in high schools also take responsibility for recognizing talents and providing information on various learning pathways; to understand and take an individual approach to helping students develop their personalities, form their work habits, and strengthen their self-discipline. Milena also highlighted the support that businesses are providing to teachers and students — from positive examples of educational programs and initiatives like Oracle Academy to popular lectures delivered in educational institutions, student visits to the companies, competitions, and much more.

While delivering the presentation “From History to the Future”, with amazing international experience, Olga Knysh, Oracle HR Senior Director for CIS Cluster, had a chance to share many motivational stories from the history of Oracle that started in 1977, many of which she witnessed herself. She spoke of people with big ideas and the drive and strength to follow their dreams and make brave and wise business decisions, as well as the impact of technologies to the business development and decision-making processes and the daily lives of all of us. Some examples of large Oracle acquisitions were discussed, and the change in Oracle Academy portfolio that followed them.

Speakers gave special attention to Oracle Cloud, available through the Oracle Academy Cloud Program, as well as the Oracle Primavera and Oracle NetSuite offerings, available to higher education in Serbia, free of charge, through the Oracle Academy program. This was showcased and explained in detail by Oracle Senior Account Cloud Engineer, Milos Živadinović. As the globe’s project management gold standard, Oracle Primavera ensures professionals are able to manage projects on time and on budget. Free through Oracle Academy along with project management curriculum, with Primavera students can get hands-on knowledge and practice and become career ready with the valuable project management skills employers seek. With NetSuite software as a service (SaaS) solution, using just a web browser, students can get practical, hands-on experience in accounting and financial management, enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management, ecommerce, supply chain management, warehouse management, and logistics.

Duša Vuković, Oracle Academy Instructor, Director of Grammar School for Computer Science, and Ljiljana Krkić, Oracle Academy Program Manager for the region including Bulgaria, Hungary, Montenegro and Serbia, covered the full stack of Oracle Academy curriculum, including Oracle Red Bull Racing-themed Oracle Academy Bytes, as well as introductory and closing sessions, together with practical guidelines on how to register for Oracle Academy membership, and how members can enroll for any of the particular curriculum.

We give a big thank you to all the faculty who took part in our events. We were delighted to change the model of delivery of this year’s Oracle Academy Days conference, and very much look forward to hosting it again next year in our office.
