As part of Oracle’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of women in technology, Oracle Volunteers partnered with Oracle Academy and Safaricom Women in Tech to deliver an engaging Design Thinking and Artificial Intelligence workshop for 150 students at Embakasi Girls High School, Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshop served as a preparatory session for the upcoming Technovation Girls season, an initiative led by Safaricom Women in Tech in Kenya, that encourages young women to develop technology-based solutions to address challenges within their communities. Through interactive activities, students gained practical skills that will help them transform innovative ideas into impactful projects.
The students also participated in an introductory session on artificial intelligence, where they explored the fundamentals of AI and its growing role in solving real-world challenges. The session introduced prompt engineering, demonstrating how well-crafted prompts can improve interactions with AI tools and generate more accurate, relevant, and creative outcomes. Students learned practical techniques for communicating effectively with AI while also discussing the importance of using these technologies responsibly and ethically.
Beyond the technical learning, Oracle Volunteers shared their career journeys and encouraged students to pursue opportunities in STEM fields. Their mentorship provided valuable insights into technology careers while inspiring participants to build confidence, think creatively, and embrace innovation.
The collaboration between Oracle Volunteers, Oracle Academy, and Safaricom Women in Tech reflects a shared commitment to empowering young women with future-ready skills. By introducing students to design thinking, AI, and prompt engineering ahead of the Technovation Girls competition, the workshop equipped them with the knowledge, confidence, and mindset to develop innovative solutions that can create lasting impact within their communities and beyond.
