Oracle Academy was proud to participate in the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Sustainability Hackathon 2026, reinforcing our commitment to preparing the next generation of innovators with the skills needed for the future of work.
The hackathon brought together university students from diverse disciplines in Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia to collaborate on technology-driven solutions addressing sustainability challenges. In addition to showcasing their creativity and technical abilities, the hackathon gave participants the opportunity to engage with industry experts to gain insights into emerging technologies and career opportunities.
Representing Oracle Academy at the final event in Cairo, Ola Ramadan delivered a keynote titled “Future Ready: The Skills Employers Look for After Graduation — and How Oracle Academy Helps Students Build Them.” The session focused on the evolving expectations of today’s employers and highlighted how Oracle Academy equips students with the technical and professional skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.

Preparing students for tomorrow’s workforce
A key theme of the keynote was that success after graduation depends on more than earning a degree. Across industries, employers are increasingly seeking graduates who can combine academic knowledge with practical experience, problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and digital fluency.
Artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, data analytics, and software development continue to reshape organizations across every sector. As these technologies become foundational business capabilities, students from engineering, business, finance, computer science, and many other disciplines all benefit from developing practical technology skills alongside their academic studies.
Throughout the interactive session, students were encouraged to think beyond traditional academic achievements and consider how they can actively develop skills that differentiate them in a competitive job market.
Oracle Academy: Learning by doing
The keynote highlighted how Oracle Academy supports educators and students through a comprehensive portfolio of free teaching and learning resources that help bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace expectations.
Students can explore learning pathways across a wide range of in-demand technologies, including:
- Java programming
- Database design, SQL, and PL/SQL
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Artificial intelligence
- Oracle APEX low-code application development
- Oracle NetSuite
- Primavera
- Oracle Education Bytes and other self-paced learning resources
These learning experiences enable students to move beyond theory by developing practical skills using technologies that are widely adopted across industries. Oracle Academy learning pathways also help prepare students for continued learning and professional certification opportunities as they advance in their careers.
Career development is a journey
A central message of the keynote encouraged students to view career readiness as an ongoing journey.
The discussion outlined a simple but powerful progression:
- Learn the fundamentals.
- Practice using real technologies.
- Build meaningful projects.
- Demonstrate your skills through portfolios, GitHub repositories, LinkedIn profiles, hackathons, internships, and certifications.
Students were reminded that employers increasingly value evidence of applied learning. A portfolio showcasing real projects often tells a more compelling story than grades alone by demonstrating initiative, creativity, technical capability, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Engaging students through conversation
The session was intentionally designed to be highly interactive, inviting students to reflect on questions such as:
- If you graduated tomorrow, what skills would make you stand out?
- What project could you build today that would strengthen your professional portfolio?
- How are you demonstrating your learning beyond the classroom?
- Which emerging technology would you like to master over the next year?
These discussions generated enthusiastic participation and highlighted students’ eagerness to explore career pathways in AI, cloud computing, software development, and data technologies.
Empowering future innovators
Events such as the IEEE AESS Sustainability Hackathon demonstrate the value of collaboration between academia, industry, and professional organizations in preparing students for successful careers.
Oracle Academy remains committed to empowering educators and learners worldwide by providing access to high-quality curriculum, cloud technologies, hands-on learning experiences, and educational resources that help students develop both technical expertise and lifelong learning skills.
