Oracle Academy was thrilled to be honored with the ‘Edtech Innovation Award’ by the Nigeria Education Conference and Awards (NECA) on November 28, 2025. The award acknowledges and celebrates the program for pioneering innovative digital learning solutions, advancing computer science education, and empowering the next generation with future-ready skills.
Held at UNILAG Design Studio, University of Lagos, the conference was themed ‘Learning Reimagined: AI and the Future of Education’. It brought together over 200 leaders and stakeholders in the education sector: administrators, education technology founders, students, educators, and non-governmental organizations across Nigeria.
At the conference, Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub Saharan Africa, participated in a panel session titled ‘AI and the Future of Skills: Preparing Students for Jobs That Don’t Yet Exist’. She stated that understanding AI can transform jobs but doesn’t eliminate human value, and learning to use AI early can help Nigerian students develop a mindset of opportunity rather than fear.
She reiterated that industry players (tech companies, startups, employers) can play a critical role in co-creating learning pathways through internships, bootcamps, and apprenticeships that match the future skills market, plus capacity building for educators. When asked what specific human skills will become the most valuable for Nigerian students over the next decade, Bekere mentioned that based off research, digital and AI literacy, critical thinking, complex problem-solving skills, and clear communication and storytelling are among the top-rated skills needed.
