Oracle Academy commemorated the UNESCO World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development by organizing the ‘Oracle Primavera Skills Workshop for Construction and Engineering Project Management’ to celebrate engineering for sustainable development. Hosted at the University of Nairobi, students from various universities across Kenya attended. Over 300 students showed up in-person with their laptops ready for the practical session, while 98 students joined virtually.

Oracle Academy, which is a long-standing collaborator with the University of Nairobi, organized the skills workshop in partnership with the Construction and Real Estate Students Association (CRESA) and the University of Nairobi’s Faculty of the Built Environment and Design. The event was organized under the leadership of Prof. Lilac Osanjo, Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Design; Arch. Peter Njeru, Chairman & Lecturer, Department of Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying; Dr. Erastus Museleku; Kennedy Mwendwa, Patron, CRESA;  and Anthony Muoki, President of CRESA.

“We have partnered with Oracle Academy to expose our students to the latest software available in the market. I urge the students and staff to take advantage of these capacity-building sessions to advance their digital skills,” said Njeru.

We had the honor of having the Oracle Kenya Country Leader, David Bunei, and the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, give keynote speeches on ‘Harnessing the Power of Innovation’ and ‘Digital Transformation in the Construction Industry,’ respectively.

“The Oracle Primavera Skills Workshop for Construction and Engineering Project Management is very important in building capacities for construction and engineering students to gain skills and knowledge on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness in project management using Primavera P6,” said Prof. Kiama.

“No one can achieve greatness alone. That is why this partnership between the University of Nairobi and Oracle is very important. We are leveraging our key strengths to bring out the best in each other. I urge students to embrace the power of teamwork and partnership to make a positive impact in the world. Students should work with individuals with complementary skills to create comprehensive solutions,” noted Bunei.

The hands-on workshop, which was facilitated by Darko Jureković, Oracle Academy Country Manager for Croatia, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic, focused on helping students in architecture, real estate, construction and engineering attain skills in Oracle Primavera P6 for Project Management. They enjoyed hands-on practice in project management, planning, budgets, resources, scheduling, and program and risk management.

The students also were tutored on the free cutting-edge curriculum available to them through the Oracle Academy Member Hub, and were informed further on the Oracle Academy Cloud Program, which provides access to the Oracle Cloud Free Tier to Oracle Academy Institutional members, educators, and their students.

“Educators can use the cloud for classroom teaching and learning to prepare students to become tomorrow’s technology innovators and leaders,” said Gooris. “Member educators and their students can access always-free Oracle Autonomous Database, Compute Virtual Machines (VM), object storage, data egress, and other essential building blocks needed to create applications on top of Oracle Autonomous Databases.”

Juma said, “Oracle Academy provides our members free access to full curriculum designed by educators for educators like Primavera P6 Professional Project Management Fundamentals. This course provides educators with the resources to teach students knowledge and skills development in project management using Oracle Primavera P6 with the goal to help them become career ready with the valuable project management skills today’s employers seek.”

Thank you to the Oracle team: Christopher Muthere, Regional Manager, East Africa, CEGBU; Kevin Kabuye, Cloud Adoptions Sales Consultant, Oracle University; and Marion Karanja, Principal Technology Solution Engineer. Their valuable contributions led to a successful event.

Oracle Academy is committed to empowering the next generation of engineers for a better and more sustainable world.
