In a recent podcast episode, ‘Bridging the Digital Divide: How Oracle Academy is Transforming Technology Education in Africa’, host Bekere Amassoma speaks with Oracle Government Affairs Lead for Africa, Annick Sakho, about today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape and how access to technology education is a crucial factor in driving economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
Across Africa, millions of young people still face limited access to technology education and digital skills training, restricting their opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world. Oracle Academy is actively addressing this challenge by bridging the digital divide, equipping learners with essential technical skills, and preparing them for the jobs of the future.
Annick talks about her background and explains how she became Director, Government Affairs Africa, at Oracle. She talks about starting out as a Research and Development Engineer at a telecoms company and her switch to the technology sector. Her career has been fulfilling, so far having worked in presales and sales roles and now government affairs in Oracle, where she has been for close to 20 years.
Seeing that Africa’s population is mostly made up of young people, Annick feels it’s important to adequately equip them with the skills they need in the digital age so Africa can bridge the global digital divide.
She mentioned how government collaboration can amplify the impact of Oracle Academy, and she advised African youths looking to build a career in tech to learn and master the fundamentals of key technology skills so they can prove they have a competitive edge in the job market. She also advised young startup founders to be creative and innovative with their solutions.
