On March 28, 2025, Oracle Academy joined the global celebration of World Engineering Day alongside the Faculty of Engineering from University of Nairobi, Strathmore University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. This year’s theme, ‘shaping our sustainable future through engineering,’ reflects the powerful role engineers play in building a better and more sustainable world.

The event brought together 22 faculty members to celebrate the importance of engineering in driving innovation and the role engineers play in solving some of the world’s biggest challenges.

One of the highlights of the day was an informational session for new faculty members, where they had the chance to explore Oracle Academy’s computer science and engineering programs and learn from experienced faculty members from leading universities in Kenya who use Oracle Academy resources in their teaching. Staff shared useful Oracle Academy resources, program offerings, and opportunities for collaboration to support teaching and learning in higher education.

The day’s program featured several engaging activities, including:

  • Keynote address from David Bunei, Oracle Kenya Country Director
  • Two hands-on sessions led by experienced Oracle Academy member faculty from Strathmore University and the University of Nairobi:
    1. A Project Management session, which introduced participants to industry-relevant project planning tools and techniques using Oracle Primavera P6
    2. A Database session, which touched on how databases support modern applications aligning with the Oracle Academy Cloud Program and Oracle APEX resources for educators and students
  • Workshops and discussions on integrating Oracle AI, Database, Cloud, and Project Management tools into university curricula, led by Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Africa
  • Networking opportunities with fellow faculty from various universities and the Oracle Kenya team

It was an inspiring day filled with learning, collaboration, and future-focused conversations.
