A transformative two-week STEAM Summer Camp was held August 11–29, 2025, at the Lead for Good Skill Empowerment Center, Ojo, Lagos Center, which brings impactful learning opportunities to over 100 youth ages 12-19 in the Ojo/Okoko community, Lagos, Nigeria.

This initiative, supported by Oracle Academy and designed by Lead for Good Africa, is a testament to the power of strategic collaborations towards the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 4: quality education, and SDG 8: decent economic growth. Lead for Good Africa is a leadership development and impact consulting social enterprise committed to eradicating poverty in Africa through human capital development.

The camp session hosted 35 teenagers (ages 10–17) for three weeks of hands-on learning, innovation, and fun. Participants explored coding, digital literacy, science experiments, creative arts, and leadership skills, alongside sessions on teamwork, responsibility, and innovation.

As part of the camp, participants visited Oracle Nigeria to gain firsthand exposure to the intersection of technology, education, and career opportunities. The visit was in alignment with our drive to empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

The central session on Career and Entrepreneurship was delivered by Bekere Amassoma, Program Manager, Oracle Academy. She provided insights into Oracle’s philanthropic contributions to education through Oracle Academy, which offers free learning curricula, teaching resources, and content in areas such as cloud computing, data science, and project management.

Bekere highlighted the importance of:

  1. Purpose and value creation – Encouraging participants to pursue careers or businesses that bring value to people and society.
  2. Continuous learning – Reading books, newspapers, and other resources to expand knowledge and perspectives.
  3. Resilience – Not allowing one’s background to limit future aspirations.
  4. Skills development – Emphasizing that education, when paired with skills, can open doors to opportunities and dreams.

She also shared insights on emerging career paths projected to remain relevant over the next 10–20 years, encouraging students to start building capacity in: cloud engineering, artificial intelligence, solutions engineering, cybersecurity analysis, and other tech-related fields.

The visit left participants with a deeper appreciation of how education, technology, and entrepreneurship can serve as tools for personal growth and societal impact. They also gained practical knowledge of relevant career opportunities in the technology sector and the importance of building purposeful, value-driven lives.

The camp concluded with a memorable Close-Out Ceremony that brought together participants, facilitators, and parents to celebrate the past weeks’ achievements. The ceremony was not just a formal wrap-up but also a reflection of the growth, creativity, and resilience the participants had demonstrated throughout the camp.
