We were very pleased to see a new version of JomaSoft’s VDCF, a leading enterprise-ready virtualization management software package. This new version (v8.4) is another testament to continued investment in the ecosystem surrounding Oracle Solaris and Oracle servers.

VDCF (Virtual Datacenter Cloud Framework) delivers a comprehensive set of features that enable you to manage a few, many, or hundreds of virtual environments – SPARC virtual machines (“LDoms”) and Oracle Solaris Zones. These features include complete lifecycle operations on:

  • hardware: compute nodes and disks
  • virtual servers (LDoms and containers) and server pools
  • local and remote storage and storage pools, I/O domains
  • Solaris packages, patches and updates
  • security management

Of course, JomaSoft offers customer support for their Commercial version.

The new version, VDCF 8.4, adds these important new features:

  • Additional automated server hardening
Automatically tightens security configuration, reducing the attack surface of SPARC LDoms or Solaris Zones
  • zpool autoclear
Global setting that automatically clears suspended zpools
  • Resource alarming
Logs and emits a warning when CPU or RAM usage exceeds a configurable threshold for a configurable duration

Over time, VDCF has grown to be a worthy replacement for Oracle OEM Ops Center, providing all of the needed functionality. You can learn more about VDCF at https://www.jomasoft.ch/vdcf/ and more about version 8.4 at https://www.jomasoft.ch/docs/vdcf84_available.pdf.
