As we continue to work toward release of Oracle Solaris 11.4, we present to you our third release of Oracle Solaris 11.4 open beta.
You can download it here, or if you’re already running a previous version of Oracle Solaris 11.4 beta, make sure your system is pointing to the beta repo (https://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/beta/) as its provider and type ‘pkg update’.
This will be the last Oracle Solaris 11.4 open beta as we are nearing release and are now going to focus our energies entirely on preparing Oracle Solaris 11.4 for general availability.
The key focus of Oracle Solaris 11.4 is to bring new capabilities and yet maintain application compatibility to help you modernize and secure your infrastructure while maintaining and protecting your application investment.. This release is specifically focused on quality and application compatibility making your transition to Oracle Solaris 11.4 seamless. The refresh includes updates to 56 popular open source libraries and utilities, a new compliance(8) “explain” subcommand which provides details on the compliance checks performed against the system for a given benchmark, and a variety of other performance and security enhancements. In addition this refresh delivers Kernel Page Table Isolation for x86 systems which is important in addressing the Meltdown security vulnerability affecting some x86 CPUs.
This update also includes an updated version of Oracle VM Server for SPARC, with improvements in console security, live migration, and introduces a LUN masking capability to simplify storage provisioning to guests.
We’re excited about the content and capability of this update, and you’ll be seeing more about specific features and capabilities in the Oracle Solaris blog in the coming days. As you try out the software in your own environment and with your own applications please continue to give us feedback through the Oracle Solaris Beta Community Forum at https://community.oracle.com/community/server_&_storage_systems/solaris/solaris-beta
