Oracle Guided Learning is the latest in real-time learning technologies.  Oracle announced during the Quest Reconnect Envision conference on April 26, 2021, that Oracle Guided Learning (OGL) was now generally available for PeopleSoft customers.  This is an exciting offering that has been made available to our PeopleSoft customers to help enhance their overall PeopleSoft experience.

What is Oracle Guided Learning?

Oracle Guided Learning or OGL for short is a real-time, just-in-time guided process tool that allows your users to be guided step by step through a process as they enter data into the system.  Gone are the days of sitting in a classroom or even watching a pre-recorded web-based training video on how to perform tasks that may only occur occasionally within your job.  OGL gives you the opportunity to build guided processes and for those guided processes to be accessed at the time they are needed.  The best part of OGL is that the user is being guided as they enter the transaction into the system.  This means that when they are done learning how to enter the data, they have already entered the transaction into the system while learning.  Increasing productivity and enhancing the overall user experience.

Is Guided Learning the right tool for me?

OGL is a tool in your toolbox.  It is not meant to be the answer to every training need within your organization, however, it is a very effective way to train users in a number of scenarios.  Users who perform very few tasks in the system and are what we call occasional users can often forget how to do tasks that may seem easy to others.  OGL allows you to create a simple guide to allow the user to be guided through simple tasks without having to reach out to the help desk for assistance.  Other use cases include tasks that are complex in nature or that may have many options for users to choose from when entering data that may need explanation.

Best Practices for Implementing Oracle Guided Learning for PeopleSoft.

  • OGL customers should perform learning impact analysis on the modules and transactions with the greatest benefit to end-users.
  • OGL customers should review existing material available in-house and or enhance it with available PeopleSoft Training content.
  • Develop the Oracle Guided Needs Assessment (GNA) as a blueprint for e-learning modules. Engage a partner to quickly ramp up this process by starting with steps from existing UPK content or other job-aids.
  • Target your first guides to new users and those with new roles. Start an awareness campaign to encourage usage.
  • Keep OGL content current as you apply updates to your system, engaging with a partner can often be helpful here.
