Oracle’s unique approach to Reporting and Analytics
Oracle Permitting and Licensing is unique. We made strategic, intentional choices in the design and development of the cloud-native solution. In this blog series, we’ll explore a few of the most important parts of the product, what we do differently and why it matters.
Why reporting and analytics matter
Often, we focus on the day-to-day users of permitting and licensing systems:
- Entrepreneurs seeking approval to open a business,
- Agency staff reviewing plans and preparing for hearings,
- Contractors and homeowners applying for permits,
- Inspectors monitoring for safety issues or municipal code violations.
These are a few of the unique user groups who require a modern, effective system to do their work, and serve as an engine of growth and progress in your community. Together, they generate activity that puts data into a permitting and licensing system.
But how do you ensure that’s the right activity? That your agency’s service level agreement policies or statutory requirements are being met. That your staff are focused on the right priorities at the right time. And that your teams are meeting agency objectives, and improving on them over time.
To do that, you need to get data out of the system easily.
Oracle’s unique approach to reporting and analytics
There are a few important ways that we make it fast and easy to get useful insights out of Oracle Permitting and Licensing:
- You have a large library of pre-built analytics and reports
As of 2022, we have built and delivered more than 145 analytics, dashboards, and operational reports. And we design and ship more in our releases every quarter, based on new capabilities in the product and collaboration with customers as they implement.

- The reporting and analytics platform is easy to use
As a cloud solution, Oracle Permitting and Licensing comes with Oracle business intelligence pre-integrated and ready to use for transactional analysis and Oracle BI Publisher for writing reports. Those are the very same tools that we used to build out the library of pre-built content above. You can use the tools to modify and extend what we’ve delivered or build your own content. And if you also use Oracle Cloud ERP or Cloud HCM, all of your analytics are on one pre-integrated platform.
- Insights are embedded in the permitting and licensing system
KPIs aren’t much use if people don’t see them. We provide one-click access to analytics dashboards from within the system to launch our delivered dashboards, or the ones you create. And, to ensure agency staff can see important measures at the time they are doing the work, we’ve placed graphs directly on specific pages. For example, the Projects page includes charts showing fees due vs collected and activity across permits.

- Schedule insights and reports for delivery
Since it’s sold to and used by thousands of customers, Oracle’s analytics and reporting tools are extremely powerful and feature-rich. For example, you can schedule analytics to be sent via email to people that don’t sign-in and use the permitting and licensing system regularly. Or use the ‘bursting’ feature in BI Publisher to split operational reports so recipients only get the rows of data that are relevant to them.
- Optionally, add advanced and predictive analytics
For those that have more advanced requirements for analysis, we integrate with Oracle Analytics Cloud. This powerful solution unlocks capabilities like forecasting revenue based on anticipated assessment of future fees, producing narrative summaries of data to include in annual budgets and similar reports, and even providing public-facing reports to support ‘open data’ requirements.
