At the start of this October, Oracle attended the 2023 International Code Council (ICC) Conference and Expo in St. Louis, Missouri as both a sponsor and exhibitor.
The ICC provides codes and standards to ensure safety and well-being through product evaluation, professional accreditation, technology, training, and certification with members located worldwide. The ICC Conference brings together its members to help connect professionals as they increase their knowledge and skills in order to improve their communities through building safety and awareness.
While the conference is a great way to learn about what’s happening in the industry, it also represents a distinct opportunity for Oracle to engage with regulatory professionals to learn about what’s important to their work, hear about the challenges they are facing, and discuss how technology can provide a solution to some of those challenges. Below are some examples of what we took away from listening to conference attendees and what is important to them-
Continuous Learning:
One of the major benefits of the ICC Conference is for building officials and other agency staff to sharpen their knowledge and skills. This year was no different.
A wide variety of sessions ensured that attending members had an opportunity to continue to learn about the best practices and bring that knowledge and innovation back to their agencies and communities.
Oracle understands that bringing this knowledge to make changes back to agencies can be difficult to implement. That’s why with Oracle’s cloud-based software, Oracle Permitting and Licensing (OPAL), we have certain system automations that have the ability to digitize that expertise reducing the burden of knowledge sharing throughout the agencies.
Changing Regulations:
There were multiple sessions at the conference that focused on how policy affects building officials and agency staff. Sessions aimed to help conference attendees navigate regulation changes that are happening across state and local governments.
Oracle has been in the government space for decades and is keenly aware of how changes in policy and regulations can affect local governments and communities. That is why OPAL was built to be highly configurable. OPAL can respond to changing regulations and policies by leveraging “no code” technologies. With these technologies, agencies can easily change business process workflows, update application forms, and adjust fee schedules in a matter of minutes instead of hours or days.
Use of Technology:
Technology advancements touch everywhere including code and building officials. This year ICC attendees had the opportunity to go to a wide variety of booths that offered technology solutions for government agencies. As technology advances, it is more important than ever that agencies understand and start to utilize technologies that can help them.
OPAL is a complete solution that not only supports code enforcement, permitting, business licensing, and planning through a public portal, digital forms, online payments, workflow, business rules, and more, but it goes beyond that to include native capabilities, most other solutions rely on third-party products such as a permit wizard and fee calculator, digital assistant, reporting and analytics, and cloud infrastructure. We even deliver capabilities such as remote video inspections through Oracle Live Experience and provide a central integration platform to manage the agency’s integrations to Oracle cloud applications using the industry-leading Oracle Integration Cloud. OPAL is here to help agencies as they look towards digitizing their processes in order to better serve their communities.
Through the ICC Conference, Oracle was able to speak directly to agency officials who serve countless communities. Not only did Oracle learn about what was on top of mind for conference attendees but we were also able to share how OPAL can help their communities as they look towards innovative and modern solutions.
