The Oracle Solution Services India team has exciting opportunities available in India and Manila, Philippines. We took the time to chat with Rajeev Kamath, Practice Director – Integration & Security, about why it’s a great time to join the team. Read on to find out if you match the profile, and how you can apply.
Why did you join the Oracle Solution Services India team?
I joined Oracle as a consultant over 18 years ago. I wanted to work with leading-edge technologies and be part of a team that was solving exciting problems on a global scale. I wanted to work in a fast-paced environment that challenged me. And above all, I wanted to add value to the customers I work with.
This is an exciting time to join Oracle. Our cloud platform is accelerating rapidly to cover areas that did not exist just a few years back. Our products are enabling our customers much faster than ever before.
How is it like to work in the Oracle Solution Services India team?
Over the years, I’ve played many roles. I started as a Technical Consultant, which meant meeting customers in many countries, understanding what they needed (and just as importantly, why), and ensuring the solutions we developed and deployed accomplished those goals.
A little later, I took on the role of Service Delivery Manager, which combined presales solution architecture discussion and estimations, as well as delivery governance. This unique blend helped me understand many end-to-end aspects of a consulting engagement.
And in my current role, I lead a team of 160 consultants in the Security and Integration domains, delivering value to our customers across 35 countries and, just this year, over 100 projects. I’m responsible for hiring consultants and their growth, and business development across EMEA and APAC, as well as project delivery.
A typical day for me starts with an opportunity for my solution architects, talent managers, and delivery leads to sort out any immediate issues. Roles and responsibilities are pretty clear, and my team has a lot of leeway in making decisions, so they take care of transactional activities on their own. I continue to focus on long-term strategic initiatives like hiring, skill development, and investments in emerging technologies and accelerators, such as Blockchain, IOT and machine learning, that will help us do more for our customers with less resources. And finally, I celebrate success, big and small.
Why do you enjoy working in Oracle Solution Services India? What inspires you in your role?
Every day is a learning opportunity for me. I’ve always been very hands-on technically. My role allows me to lead a team of brilliant consultants, while always looking for new ways to solve technical and business challenges. I’ve travelled the world, met fantastic customers, and made friends in dozens of countries. With all of that comes growth, both personal and professional. I’ve learnt a lot about technologies—some which don’t even exist anymore. But at the end of the day, I always want to learn new things; Oracle has given me that opportunity. I still want to transform our customers’ business life and help them achieve their objectives, using Oracle products and platforms. Every day is exciting and I honestly love getting up every morning.
What are the career opportunities available in your team?
My team is roughly broken down into individual contributors who work on our customer-facing engagements, solution architects who are responsible for architecting solutions and ensuring delivery on projects, and finally, talent managers who are responsible for the hiring and development of my team members. I’m currently hiring for all roles across 5 locations in India, as well as in Manila.
Why should people join Oracle Solution Services India?
There are many reasons. First, we’re one of the few lines of business within Oracle that works with customers across EMEA, APAC, and Latin America. With so many customers and regions comes the opportunity to learn about new cultures. Second, we’re co-located with Product Development, and have inherently become the conduit for many other Consulting lines of business to learn what is coming up in new products and releases. Third, the opportunities for technical learning are immense. While we focus on the middleware stack, the boundaries between applications and technology are blurring. My team works across Fusion SaaS and PaaS every single day. My average consultant has 8 years of experience (22 at the high end). You will always be doing something new and exciting with that kind of experience.
