In return, you’ll receive world-class training as a solution engineer. We caught up with Ricardo to shed some light on what a career in solution engineering looks like—read on to find out if this career path is for you!

Make an impact on people’s lives

Our Cloud Engineering team is a critical part of our pre-sales organisation. Experts like Ricardo translate unique customer needs into Oracle solutions which are transforming the way the world does business. “What inspires me is simple,” Ricardo begins. “My mission is to consistently help my customers achieve tangible business value with Oracle technologies.”

Within our Cloud Engineering team, Ricardo is a senior architect, a role which he finds extremely exciting because of its direct effect on the world around him. “I joined this team because the challenge is immense,” he explains. “I’m contributing to the modernisation of the economic fabric of my country. Specifically, driving change for the customers I serve, and helping them adopt meaningful business solutions based on world-class technology.”

The bridge between business and technology

For Ricardo, the challenge of solution engineering is particularly fascinating because it lies at the intersection of business and technology. “A lot of the work I’m doing has to do with digitalization of businesses,” he describes.  “This isn’t just a fancy expression. This is helping companies transition to modern business models that allow them to be more competitive and to export more. It’s also making a difference for my customers’ customers.”

As an example, Ricardo asks us to think about a fintech company. “Think about the importance of financial institutions being able to engage with their customers digitally in today’s world. I’ve been helping customers address challenges like these that really make a difference in people’s daily jobs and lives.”

Putting the customer first

Ricardo sums up his day-to-day work in one adjective: energetic. “My work is 100% customer-focused,” he reveals. “That keeps you on your toes. You have to be responsive and fast in understanding customers’ needs, designing and validating an end-to-end solution, proving the value of that solution to customers by helping them see a new and improved version of the world they know, and helping them adopt it. We remove obstacles and always keep the focus on the best solution for the customer.”

Innovation starts with inclusion

This intense solution engineering involves a lot of collaboration between internal teams, something which feels seamless to Ricardo because of the calibre of his colleagues. “I work with extremely talented and driven people who are always pushing for innovation and creativity in solution design for our customers,” he shares. “My teammates are always willing to help and support me whenever I need it.”

When asked why he thinks his team functions so well, Ricardo speaks about the inclusive culture that helps each of them do their best work. “I really appreciate the fact that my team is made up of people from different backgrounds,” he emphasizes. “We truly embrace the idea that there’s no one right profile that fits this job to the detriment of all others. My team delivers on the idea that diversity is an added value for us and customers alike.”

Why you should join the team

So, in a nutshell, why should you be interested in joining our Cloud Engineering team? “The opportunities to learn here are never-ending,” Ricardo enthuses. “This is an awesome job for people bursting with curiosity. I honestly describe it like an attraction park that never closes.”
He leaves us with three main reasons why he loves his job—and you will too:

  1. “I’m going to repeat myself, but putting my customers first is a fundamental principle that helps my team succeed time and time again.”
  2. “Change is the only constant at Oracle. Not only do I have to expect change, I have to be prepared to embrace and thrive on it.”
  3. “Curiosity and wanting to learn and evolve are just as important in my role today as they were the day I joined.”
