Recent graduates and young professionals face a daunting challenge—breaking into a brand-new industry without on-the-job experience. Luckily, the Generation Oracle (GenO) program offers you a way to kick off your career in tech in a way that builds experience fast. As Romania-based Customer Success Services (CSS) GenO Advanced Services Engineer Cristian Tabira can attest, we offer a unique and supportive environment that fosters growth, innovation, and community involvement from the get-go.

Continuous learning

It all starts with a culture that values continuous learning and personal development. “Oracle’s culture stands out because of its strong emphasis on continuous learning and personal development,” Cristian explains. “The company invests heavily in empowering its employees to stay curious and adaptable, providing ample opportunities for growth through both formal training and informal knowledge-sharing.”

This approach is in everything we do, from the tools and resources available to our people to the collaborative community environment where everyone can exchange ideas and grow together. And it’s especially important in customer success, where teams need to pull together to handle critical issues that can negatively impact businesses.

Inclusion fuels this. A workforce that brings unique perspectives and ideas to the table tends to be one that’s ready to innovate. As Cristian observes, “It’s about inclusion in terms of thought, perspective, and experience. Working with colleagues from around the world allows me to not only gain new insights into global markets but also to learn about different cultures, traditions, and ways of working.” In doing so, he’s not only tapping into his own potential, but also that of his colleagues in CSS.

Giving back and going beyond

As part of this, Oracle employees find themselves with plenty of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular projects that align with their interests and values. Volunteering opportunities are popular and Cristian has taken part in several projects already, including planting trees, supplying career insights to high school students, and supporting local community projects in Romania.volunteering activity

These experiences have not only been fulfilling but have also helped him develop valuable soft skills, like leadership, teamwork, and communication. All vital to a successful career in guiding customers towards their goals.

Apart from empowering volunteer efforts, we also prioritize work-life balance. When people are able to balance their lives outside of work, they’re better able to perform at their best on the job. Cristian’s team in CSS has been incredibly supportive in this way, which has helped him to pursue his master’s degree while working full-time.

“My manager has consistently demonstrated understanding and flexibility, especially in balancing my professional responsibilities with my personal commitments,” he shares.

Onboarding with ease

GenO’s onboarding process is a little different in that it’s made to ensure a smooth transition into new roles. Some companies treat this stage as a one-way process, looking to ‘info dump’ new starters with details before leaving them to figure things out on their own. We believe that for our GenO’s to perform at their best, they need the best possible start.

Cristian found the process refreshingly well-structured and supportive, with plenty of time to learn and adjust to the new environment. This was clear even from the very start of the hiring process with a relaxed interview process focused on people skills, like adaptability, problem-solving, and communication, alongside technical ability.

The GenO advantage

So why join GenO? For Cristian, it’s a clear choice, “I would highly encourage recent graduates and young professionals to join Oracle because it’s a company that truly invests in your growth and development. Oracle provides a bunch of resources, from access to a wide range of courses and certifications, to a strong network of professionals who are always willing to offer guidance and support.”

Along with all of this, participants get the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, develop valuable skills, and build a foundation for long-term success. Cristian also notes, “This experience will equip you with skills and knowledge that will make you a sought-after professional in the industry. Your resume will reflect the strong foundation you’ve built at Oracle, setting you up for long-term success.”
