We caught up with the consulting practice director, Vasudeva Hosmat, to shine a light on his career path and hear about the game-changing opportunities his team offers customer-centric engineers.
Internal mobility drives careers
Vasu joined Oracle Financial Services as a developer 18 years ago. During this time he’s had the freedom to diversify his interests and change lanes in his career, traversing areas such as quality assurance, product development, post production support, product implementation, and more. This support for internal mobility is a hallmark of life at Oracle, and something which has kept Vasu on his toes for nearly two decades.
“There has never been a dull moment since the day I joined OFS in 2003,” he laughs. “Over the past 18 years, it’s been an amazing experience interacting with so many passionate individuals across different teams and getting to see so many different perspectives around the core banking domain. My various roles across product engineering, global support, and consulting have helped shape my career today.”
Customer success = the ultimate motivator
In his current role, Vasu leads a team that provides specific core banking services for customers in the Middle East and Africa, a region which Vasu describes as being extremely diverse, both culturally and linguistically.
“I’m honored to a lead a team that’s reshaping the financial services industry. We deliver tremendous value to our customers by offering them value added services like health checks, training programs, and product parameterization support, as well as supporting their technology stack and core banking application extensions,” he lists. “Not to mention that we ensure zero percent downtime for their core banking services.”
Vasu’s team is the customers’ first port of call for any production related issue, and this close relationship keeps Vasu highly motivated. “A swift decisive response to resolve a reported issue leads to immense customer satisfaction, which in turn is seen as a key differentiator in today’s competitive landscape,” he describes. “Keeping a finger on the pulse of our existing customers leads to an increased customer lifetime value.”

You can probably detect the strong sense of pride that Vasu has in his team and the services they deliver. For him, solving the most challenging problems in financial services is more than just a job. It’s a call to invent and be a pioneer in the new age of banking.

Vasu leaves future candidates with some final words of wisdom. “The best career advice I’ve ever received is to try to excel but not strive for perfection,” he advises. “Once we give up on trying to be perfect, we allow ourselves the opportunity to shine. My own career advice is to maintain a curious disposition and ask the right questions.”
