Career paths are ever-changing. It’s only natural to crave a new, exciting challenge after working in the same area for several years. For staff sales consultant Christine Huang, that challenge was the NetSuite Solution Consulting Academy (SCA). She sat down with us to share her experience with the program and how being a graduate has impacted her career at NetSuite.
Taking initiative
Christine had previously worked for Oracle NetSuite where her experience was in behind-the-scenes operations and analyses for global sales organizations. This time, she craved being in on the action on the customer-facing side.
“I decided I wanted to make a transition back to NetSuite—I’m a NetSuite boomerang—but on the solution consulting side because I knew how integral solution consultants were in pushing deals over the finish line, and I also knew that the SCA would properly train me to take on this role,” she explains.
Challenge and reward
Over the course of seven months, the academy provided Christine with in-depth training on NetSuite functionality and the ERP world. It also pushed her to hone soft skills, particularly storytelling and strategic thinking. The program was rigorous, but she found its intensity to be rewarding.
She especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet and collaborate with teammates who came from all kinds of professional backgrounds.
“We really leaned on each other’s strengths to help us grow, learn, and get through the program,” she says. “To this day, we still lean on each other for questions and have all become very good friends outside of work!”
An exciting career
Today, Christine is a staff sales consultant at NetSuite. She works directly with clients to determine if NetSuite is a good fit for their business and illustrates how our solutions address their individual needs. Each day is action-packed with customer-facing calls, internal strategy meetings, demo preparations, and professional development.
Even after graduating, she continues to leverage the knowledge and experience she gained from the SCA. She credits the program for helping her thrive in a fulfilling role and changing her perspective on work.
“The bootcamp nature of SCA has pushed me to embrace the mindset of constant learning—there’s always something new to learn about in NetSuite and the ERP world—and leaning on others along the way,” Christine tells us.
She points out that the collaborative culture that she enjoyed during the program extends to the NetSuite Solution Consulting organization as a whole.
“Everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand, provide insights on deal strategy, and show interest in you as a person.”
