Staff Sales Consultant
Why is it that some careers thrive more than others? We believe that being set up to succeed plays a big part. While each of us brings different backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities to our work, we can all benefit from a guiding hand sometimes. The Oracle NetSuite Solution Consulting Academy gives applicants just that.
Over seven months, the program gives tech newcomers all the training they need to make their mark in pre-sales. Staff Sales Consultant, Cliff Redd experienced this first-hand when he started, getting practical training with everything from NetSuite solutions and systems to the ins and outs of the sales organization. It’s been a whirlwind journey so far and he was keen to share his thoughts with us.
“No typical day”
“There really is no typical day in solutions consultant land,” he shares. “Some days are spent doing demonstrations for customers of the entire suite showing them how NetSuite will make their lives more efficient, some are filled with discovery calls to begin to prep for demonstrations, and then some days are calmer and give me a chance to self-ramp on different functionality in the system.”
“This is part of the reason I love being a solutions consultant, you never get bored because there are new challenges every single day.”
You’d think that all this change might be stressful, but Cliff believes his time in the academy training has equipped him for whatever comes.
“It prepared me for so many types of prospects. The program was so thorough that most of my real demos are easier and more straightforward than the checkpoints we had in the program.”
Realistic
The training was tailored from the start to balance depth and breadth of knowledge with realistic pacing. This has meant that those that graduate from the academy are equipped to handle more scenarios and recognize situations where they may need more support.
“There is a lot to learn about NetSuite and the program uses a great pace that allows you to learn a lot without being overwhelmed.”
It’s clear that Cliff is happy with how things turned out and is enthusiastic about his career growth prospects at Oracle. So, is this what he expected on day one? It seems like he had a hunch that things would turn out well.

Work-life balance
“The leadership was very welcoming, and I could tell they had my best interests at heart,” he explains. He also sensed a lot of enthusiasm from people in the rest of the program—something that left a lasting impression.
“I liked the idea that I was coming into the company with a group of other people who would be learning the same things as me on a day in and day out basis. The ability to collaborate with so many like-minded individuals made for an easier learning curve.”
This focus on strong team dynamics and collaboration means that work-life balance is also very much front-of-mind in the team. After all, teams can only succeed together.
Part of something bigger
“I love being a part of a team that values work-life balance—this is truly the definition of work hard, play hard. Management actually listens when you have suggestions on how to make the culture better and you feel like you are a part of something bigger than yourself.”
It’s something that he can’t recommend highly enough to others looking for a more challenging, rewarding career. “As long as you have a good attitude, they will teach you everything you need to know about NetSuite,” he adds.
“My only regret is I wish I could have known about it earlier in my career.”
