Standing out
Taking on a tech internship can be both thrilling and daunting. While it’s the perfect opportunity to gain valuable industry experience, putting your best foot forward as an intern is crucial.
We caught up with Database Product Manager Kamryn Vinson to find out what makes successful interns stand out. Read on for practical tips that you can use to thrive in your own internship and get closer to your dream career.

Database Product Manager
Enthusiasm
With over two years under her belt at Oracle, Kamryn has a well-rounded perspective on the internship process. She joined us as an intern herself after graduating from Georgia Southern University in 2020. Before long, she was converted to a full-time database product manager—a role that gave her insight into internships from the other side of the curtain.
Kamryn explains that there are specific qualities that help interns make the most of their experience. First and foremost is enthusiasm for the internship—expressing eagerness and excitement for the work you’re doing.
Get involved
The next key qualities are teamworking capabilities and a willingness to learn. Someone who’s a good fit for the role is eager to get involved with members of their team and learn from other people.
When she began working at Oracle, Kamryn had just 18 LinkedIn connections. Now, nearly two and a half years later, she has over 500 connections.
“You will connect and work with so many amazing people,” she assures.
Prioritize
Another aspect that managers like Kamryn keep in mind is prioritization. How do you prioritize all your projects? Can you meet deadlines? The answers to these questions should be reinforced by the work you do throughout your internship.
Finally, Kamryn says, “You need to have a passion for your future career and demonstrate the qualities of professionalism.”
Ahead of the curve
At the end of the day, preparing well for your internship will put you ahead of the curve. Know what you want to bring to your role, establish yourself as a standout, and make strides toward a thriving career in tech.
