Oracle Forms and Reports 12c Upgrade using the In-Place Method

With more than a year now the Oracle Forms and Reports 12.2.1.19.0 has been released, if you are still on the old and absolute version of the Oracle Forms and Reports, as always Forms and Reports provides options to upgrade the old versions to the latest 12.2.1.19.0. In this blog you shall receive information about the upgrade paths using the new upgrade method called as In-Place Upgrade.

12.2.1.19.0 Release Announcement

What is In-Place Upgrade?

  • It is a new method of upgrade process introduced in the Oracle Forms and Reports 12.2.1.19.0.
  • Supports upgrading the existing FMW domain from version 12.2.1.3.0 and 12.2.1.4.0 to the 12.2.1.19.0 version.
  • The simplest upgrade method, Uses the existing ORACLE_HOME(12.2.1.3.0 or 12.2.1.4.0) path.
  • No RCU (Repository Creation Utility) and Domain reconfiguration required.
  • Applicable for Single Node/Multi-Node/Cluster of Oracle Forms/Reports

Why should you upgrade Oracle Forms and Reports?

Error Correction Support Dates for Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c – FMW/WLS (Doc ID 1933372.1)

  • New features and enhancements available in 12.2.1.19.0
  • No bug fixes, CPU and QPR patches for 12.2.1.4.0 since Premier Support period ended.
  • Only Sustaining Support will be available for 12.2.1.4.0 and earlier versions.
  • If planning to migrate to Oracle Cloud, Oracle Forms Marketplace image is available for 12.2.1.19.0

Are you on the obsolete version of Oracle Forms and Reports?

The below image describes the upgrade path. Any versions below 12.2.1.3.0 and 12.2.1.4.0, first upgrade to 12.2.1.4 by following the upgrade instructions in the 12.2.1.4 version of Installing Oracle Forms and Reports. Then, follow the steps provided in the In-Place upgrade section to upgrade to 12.2.1.19.

 

  • Upgrading Oracle Forms and Reports from 11g to 12c – this document has steps to upgrade from Oracle Forms and Reports 11.1.1.7.0 up to 12.2.1.3.0
  • Upgrading Oracle Forms and Reports from 6i to 12c – this document has steps to upgrade from Oracle Forms and Reports 6i to 12.2.1.4.0

After upgrading to 12.2.1.4.0 domain, In-place upgrade method can be applied to upgrade to 12.2.1.19.0
