DevOps for Oracle Forms Using Developer Cloud Service

Oracle Forms is an application development technology that dates back to the 1980’s. Since that time, the product has evolved from a tool to create character mode applications to one which creates applications now being deployed in web architecture. Over time, applications developed with this technology have grown significantly in size and complexity. Today, these complex enterprise applications are deployed on servers around the world and to hundreds of thousands of end-users. With applications of such complexity and importance, the need for easier, faster, and low risk maintenance practices has become crucial to ensuring that these applications are stable, up to date, and secure. This is where modern DevOps practices can help. With trends in application development aggressively moving toward a more “agile” model of development and deployment, the ability to manage Forms applications in this way will require modern tooling. Developer Cloud Service offers such a solution. Please check on the OTN page to see how Oracle Developer Cloud Service and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure can help to simplify version control and automate application deployment. Such automation can help to reduce the level of effort and risk involved in maintaining Forms applications. We are waiting you on the community page to share your experience with Forms on Cloud.  OTN Discussion Forum

Which Portal Product's Support Ends in 2018?

Once your products are in the market and customers are using them, what is the one thing that matters most to you? Every night you go to sleep, keeping your fingers crossed, hoping nothing goes wrong. Yes, we are talking about dreaded software downtime!      There are many reasons to upgrade your Oracle products to the latest patch version. One very important reason to upgrade, is to minimize downtime. One recently published Gartner's report shows that true average cost per hour of software downtime can be more than $600k! It is prudent to invest time and resources in upgrading your Oracle products at every opportunity.  You don’t want to risk downtime simply because you failed to install a simple patch. It goes without saying that the effort you put into upgrading always outweighs the cost you pay due to downtime. Product downtime can impact more than your revenue.  Your brand, the most critical part for your business, might also take a substantial hit! When you avoid an upgrade, you may also face higher security risk vulnerabilities. The performance of your products can also be affected.      Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to achieve 100% uptime / 0% downtime.  You can only maximize the effort it takes to avoid it.  This means keeping track of the latest available patches for your Oracle products.      Eventually, Oracle will stop producing patches to the older versions of their products, so if you are still behind when it comes to upgrading to the latest patches, Oracle strongly recommends to upgrade as soon as possible. In this context, note the following table showing the Oracle WebCenter Portal and Oracle WebLogic Portal Support End dates for the year of 2018. *Support dates for Release 12c of these products will follow those listed for Fusion Middleware 12c in the Oracle Fusion Middleware Releases section of this document. Out of them, one single most reason that stands out, is to avoid downtime. One recently published Gartner's report shows that true average cost per hour of software downtime can be as large as more than $600k! It is prudent to invest time and resources in upgrading your Oracle product in every opportunity you have, rather than taking high risk of facing the downtime due to not upgrading. It goes without saying that effort you put in upgrading, always outweighs cost you pay because of the downtime. Product downtime can impact more than even revenue, Your brand, the most critical part for your business, might also take a substantial hit! You are also facing higher security risk vulnerabilities due to inadvertent avoidance and ignorance of the upgrade. The performance of your product can also get affected.      Unfortunately, in all practicality, to achieve 100% uptime/0% downtime is almost not possible and one can only try to maximize effort in avoiding it. Almost All Of The Oracle Knowledge Documents Are Searchable Now!

In our on going effort to improve user experience by making the Oracle Knowledge Documents and other privilege resources available externally to you, last year we announced that Oracle Knowledge Documents 'HOWTO" and "Problem" types are available to search. Last August, we also announced that you can obtain My Oracle Support Communities (MOSC) discussion results when you perform search in your Internet browsers. Further along this effort, at this time, we are opening up more Oracle Knowledge Documents of other types (Advisor, Announcements, Bulletins, FAQ, Reference, Troubleshooting, etc) and can be searched using available Internet browsers. The process of accessing these newly available Knowledge Documents is same as described in previous announcement. With availability of these new types of thousands of documents, you are empowered to receive results of almost all of the Oracle Knowledge Documents. Release of 7 Oracle Identity Governance (OIG) Connectors : Version 12c

Oracle Identity Manager provides a three-tier integration solutions strategy for integration with heterogeneous identity-aware IT systems. This three-tier strategy is designed to minimize custom development, maximize the reuse of code, and reduce deployment time. The three tiers are: Out-of-the box integration using predefined connectors and predefined generic technology connector providers. When a predefined connector is available for a target resource, it is the recommended integration method. Because a predefined connector is designed specifically for the target application, it offers the quickest integration method. Predefined connectors support popular business applications such as Oracle eBusiness Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel, JD Edward and SAP, as well as technology applications such as Microsoft Active Directory, Java Directory Server, UNIX, databases, and RSA ClearTrust. Predefined connectors use target system recommended integration technologies and are preconfigured with target system-specific attributes. Connectors created using custom generic technology connector providers. To integrate Oracle Identity Manager with a target system that has no corresponding predefined connector, you can create a custom connector to link the target system and Oracle Identity Manager. If you do not want to use the customization features of the Adapter Factory, then you can create the connector by using the Generic Technology Connector feature of Oracle Identity Manager. Custom connectors created using the Adapter Factory. If there is no technology interface or accessible user repository in the target system, then you can develop a custom connector for the target system. The Adapter Factory tool in the Design Console provides a definitional user interface that facilitates such custom development efforts without coding or scripting. Oracle Identity Governance (OIG) Product Management is happy to announce the release of Oracle Identity Governance (OIG) new 12c Connector for the following products: Identity Cloud Service – (IDCS-12.2.1.3.0.zip) GoToMeeting  - (GoToMeeting-12.2.1.3.0.zip) WebEx  - (Webex-12.2.1.3.0.zip) Salesforce  - (Salesforce-12.2.1.3.0.zip) Service Now  - (ServiceNow-12.2.1.3.0.zip) SAP User Management  - (sap-12.2.1.3.0.zip) SAP User Management Engine  -  (sapume-12.2.1.3.0.zip) This addition of new connectors will continue as time progresses. Some of the highlight of these 12c(12.2.1.3.0) Connectors are as follow: Support for OIG Application on-boarding Simple wizard based configurations for connectors Customization support the scripts within UI Inbuilt  process forms Download: You can download these connectors from OTN  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/id-mgmt/downloads/connectors-101674.html » Documentation: More information can be found in following documents: - https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E22999_01/index.htm - https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/oig-connectors-12213/index.html       If you have any questions, create a discussion thread in My Oracle Support Identity Management Community or reach out to Oracle Premier Support.
