Do You Know

Which Oracle WebCenter Content Product Support Ends in 2020 and 2021?

Once your products are in the market and customers are using them, what is the one thing that matters most to you? Every night you go to sleep, keeping your fingers crossed, hoping nothing goes wrong. Yes, we are talking about dreaded software downtime!      There are many reasons to upgrade your Oracle products to the latest patch version. One very important reason to upgrade, is to minimize downtime. One Gartner's report shows that the true average cost per hour of software downtime can be more than $600k! It is prudent to invest time and resources in upgrading your Oracle products at every opportunity.  You don’t want to risk downtime, simply because you failed to install a simple patch. It goes without saying that the effort you put into upgrading, always outweighs the cost you pay because of downtime. Product downtime can impact more than your revenue.  Your brand, the most critical part for your business, might also take a substantial hit! When you avoid an upgrade, you may also face higher security risk vulnerabilities. The performance of your products can also be affected.      Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to achieve 100% uptime / 0% downtime.  You can only maximize the effort it takes to avoid it.  This means keeping track of the latest available patches for your Oracle products.      Eventually, Oracle will stop producing patches to the older versions of their products so, if you are still behind when it comes to upgrading to the latest patches, Oracle strongly recommends to upgrade as soon as possible. In this context, note the following table showing the Oracle WebCenter Content Support End dates for the years 2020 and 2021. Understand Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update (PSU) release versions REFERENCE: Understanding WebLogic Server Patch Set Update (PSU) Release Versions (Doc ID 2565576.1) WebLogic Server PSU versions are based on a date of release, usually coordinated with the Critical Patch Update announcement. For background, you should first be familiar with the WLS PSU and how it is released with the Critical Patch Update program: Note 1306505.1 Patch Set Update (PSU) Administration Guide for Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) - read once Note 1470197.1 Patch Set Update (PSU) Release Listing for Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) - refer to often Patch Set Updates (PSUs) are delivered for multiple products and have followed the same version numbering system as explained in this document: Note 2061926.1 Oracle Database, Enterprise Manager and Middleware - Change to Patch Numbering from Nov 2015 onwards For early releases, the version was a digit incremented each release. Now the date is translated into a version number like 10.3.6.YYMMDD, 12.1.3.YYMMDD, or 12.2.1.3.YYMMDD, where: YY is the last 2 digits of the year MM is the numeric month (2 digits) DD is the numeric day of the month (2 digits) Release Schedule Oracle currently delivers the latest Critical Patch Updates (CPU) on a quarterly basis: January, April, July, and October of each year.   Therefore, the Weblogic Server PSUs will take on a date coordinating with these months. In some cases, for example where a PSU planning activities were ahead of schedule, the version is actually signifying a date before the actual CPU/PSU release month.   In some rare cases, for example where the same bundle is released on multiple platforms, the patch for a specific platform may not be available until some days after the "release date." Note 1470197.1 provides a history of all WebLogic Server PSU releases, but for the latest, it will always refer to the most current Critical Patch Update documentation.   12.2.1.4 Beginning with January 2020 For 12.2.1.4 version proactive patches, 5th octet of the version would be in yymmdd format.  For example, the first WLS Patch Set Update released in January 14, 2020 will be 12.2.1.4.191220. Note this is based on a build date, not the release date to follow the Continuous Delivery model introduced with 12.2.1.3. As part of this model, patches are built and tested continuously and the last good patch that has completed testing would be released as the PSU. The version and description of the patch will be defined by the date of the final patch build date instead of the release date. This change is done as Oracle delivers to Oracle Cloud and PSUs from the same release branch to keep the cloud and enterprise as close as possible.     3. Popular known issues in this PSU release REFERENCE: Note 2458832.1 WebLogic Server PSU - Popular Known Issues WLS PSU Jan 2020 (200114) A new WLS PSU has been released January 14, 2020 for 10.3.6, 12.1.3, 12.2.1.3, and 12.2.1.4.   See the ADVISORY (which includes CVE and risk matrix), CPU/PSU Patch Availability Note 2602410.1 and Bugs Fixed Lists in Note 1470197.1. 3. Popular known issues in this PSU release REFERENCE: Note 2458832.1 WebLogic Server PSU - Popular Known Issues WLS PSU Oct 2019 (191015) A new WLS PSU is scheduled for October 15, 2019 for 10.3.6, 12.1.3, and 12.2.1.3. See the ADVISORY (which includes CVE and risk matrix), CPU/PSU Patch Availability Note 2568292.1 and Bugs Fixed Lists in Note 1470197.1. The following popular issue affects EPM/Hyperion 11.1.2.4 and other FMW 11.1.1.7 deployments with WLS 10.3.6: Note 2604499.1 Errors After Applying WLS PSU: "Unable to Read Logging Configuration from File 'logging.xml' exception: oracle.core.ojdl.logging.LoggingConfigurationException: ODL-52050" Many previous issues affect the new release, especially the known conflicts. Updates to the Console and My Services Dashboard in Oracle Cloud

The Oracle Cloud User and Developer Experience team is proud to announce the next suite of usability enhancements for Oracle Cloud. The biggest update includes improving the user experience for the IaaS and PaaS console. It will be easier for you to manage all your Oracle Cloud services — whether they be IaaS, PaaS, and now SaaS — from a single login. The Console and My Services Dashboard are updated to provide a more unified customer experience. These updates will enhance and simplify managing your cloud, but the placement for several key navigational actions will also change. For more information, refer to Console Experience Enhancements Unite IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Updated areas of the Console include: Cost Analysis, Invoices & Subscription ID IDCS Console Access from Tenancy Details PaaS Navigation PaaS Access Management Announcements Live Chat My Home (re-labeled Service User Console) How does this affect me? If you use the Oracle Cloud My Services dashboard to access and manage services, over the next few days you will notice an updated dashboard experience after you sign in. Depending on the services you subscribe to, you will see various visual and navigational changes that are documented here. Most users will see the new Console experience by default, and will no longer need to navigate to My Services to manage their cloud. Do I need to take any action? We recommend reading the announcement blog post so you are familiar with how the upcoming changes may affect navigation to certain features within the console. Do I need to update saved URLs or bookmarks? No. Previously saved URLs will automatically redirect to the new Console experience.

How to: Move APEX Applications to Autonomous Database cookbook

Fancy moving your Oracle APEX applications on Oracle Autonomous Database? Then you may benefit from the complete cookbook, with examples, that demonstrates how to accomplish this move offered by Joel Kallman, the Product Manager of Oracle Application Express here! The High-Level Steps from the cookbook: You can follow the steps below to move your APEX applications, associated data schemas, and local RESTful services to Autonomous Database: Archive your APEX applications - This step copies your APEX application definitions into your local schema Export your data schema(s) - This will be used to move all of your exiting data objects and data Stage your export file(s) - Copy the Data Pump export file into the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage Connect to Autonomous Database and Import File - Your data schema(s) will now be moved Create an APEX Workspace - Define your new APEX workspace where your applications will be restored Remove database objects and install APEX Application Archive App - Run a small SQL script to remove the objects which prevent the APEX Application Archive App from installing Restore the APEX Applications - Using the APEX Application Archive productivity app, you can easily restore all of your APEX applications Copy ORDS RESTful Services - If you have defined RESTful Services on-premises then use this step to copy them to the cloud Complete post migration tasks in Autonomous Database, if applicable. SQL Developer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, SQLcl, and REST Data Services versions 19.2 are now available!

SQL Developer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, SQLcl, and REST Data Services are all updated and released as version 19.2! A few things of note from the Master Product Manager Jeff Smith: Oracle Java 11 is now supported. You can run 12 as well, but we tested and certified 11. 8 is also still supported, and we ship Java 8 JDK with the embedded Windows 64 distribution. ORDS is no longer included with SQL Developer. You can still use the Installer/Run wizards for ORDS, but you’ll need to download the ZIP from OTN first. ORDS and the DB API has been enhanced, most notably we have end points for running Data Pump Imports and creating new databases with the Database Creation Assistant. Data Modeler now supports (robustly!) versioning your designs with Git. SQLcl now allows you to enable SQL Injection warnings when creating/compiling PL/SQL. SQLcl now includes support for Liquibase – and we’ll create your changelogs for you! Lots and lots of bug fixes. More information available here! You may check the Product Manager schedule at Oracle Open World here. The software is available on OTN as follows: - SQL Developer 19.2  - SQL Developer Data Modeler 19.2  - Oracle REST Data Services 19.2  - SQLcl 19.2

Oracle Openworld 2019 - Oracle Digital Assistant (Chatbot) Sessions

First, it was Data Mining then Cloud and now AI / ML. Are these technologies to stay or just another passing phase? More specifically, is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning just another hype in technology? I attended one of the ML Summit last week. A prominent VP strongly emphasized that no matter whether you and I work in ML or not, it is going to stay here for very, very, very long time. And I believe that it is true. I think that it is not a moot point any more and the proof is in billions of dollars being invested all over world in AI implementation and education. MIT recently announced that it is going invest $1 billion dollars to create new college specifically for AI! So what is ML implementation? You create a ML Model, you train the model with training sets and voila! it provides predictive analysis which usually is not possible by any rule based systems. ML applications are rapidly coming to reality and showing tremendous promises in horizon. But the main question is, how many real world applications exist today? In one of the recent ACM TechTalk, it was mentioned that there are three flavors of AI and ML today in industry viz. Risk Models, Classification and lastly, Chatbot. Chatbot is more predominant application than any other implementation of AI/ML in real world today. It is also without doubt that Oracle Digital Assistant Assistant (Oracle Chatbot) is leader among the crowd. What is better opportunity to learn, polish your skills in implementing Chatbot and have face to fact talk with Oracle Digital Assistant leaders while attending OOW19 chatbot sessions? Oracle Digital Assistant (Chatbot) Oracle Digital Assistant is a complete, open platform that enables businesses to create AI-powered digital assistants (aka chatbots) in order to engage in natural conversations with users at scale. Oracle Digital Assistant uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate and personalize interactions via conversational interfaces (voice/text), extending and enhancing the functionality of back-end systems, and offering instant, intelligent, and even predictive user engagement. You can catch a preview on what's next for Oracle Digital Assistant in this webcast: http://ora.cl/dJ3Y5  Here is glimpse of some of the sessions taking place in Oracle Openworld 2019. Understand Oracle WebLogic Server Patch Set Update (PSU) release versions REFERENCE: Understanding WebLogic Server Patch Set Update (PSU) Release Versions (Doc ID 2565576.1) July 2019 Change for 12.2.1.3 July 2019 for 12.2.1.3 will be the first WebLogic Server PSU released that is done with a Continuous Delivery model. This results in a patch version and description that will not be the same as the other PSUs in a cycle, nor will it reflect the release date - which has been the traditional versioning nomenclature. For July 2019, the PSU released will be "12.2.1.3.0(ID:20190522.070630)", where the embedded "190522"is the differentiating factor to signify the build date before the actual release date.  Tip: In order to tell the difference between PSU releases, look for this date being within or before the scheduled Jan, Apr, Jul, and Oct PSU release months. For example, May 22 is after April but before July, so it is the July PSU. This change is to be reflected on the My Oracle Support patch download page and the Inventory description: opatch lsinventory ... Patch 29814665 : applied on Tue Jul 23 22:59:25 MDT 2019 Unique Patch ID: 22937216 Patch description: "WLS PATCH SET UPDATE 12.2.1.3.0(ID:20190522.070630)" Created on 30 May 2019, 06:22:48 hrs PST8PDT ...
