Guided Journeys is different. Unlike many capabilities in Fusion Apps, it isn’t intended for business process automation. Instead, its function is to help end users navigate unfamiliar processes with contextual guidance right where it’s needed. Now, we’re extending Guided Journeys to take advantage of AI, including GenAI.
Guided Journeys 101
Guided Journeys provides end users with guidance that helps them navigate complex or infrequently used workflows. It offers highly personalized instructions that help them complete tasks. And it’s effective because it uses data from the user’s specific context in Fusion Apps to generate targeted advice. Guided Journeys is also extremely flexible. Among other things, customers use it to provide text-based tutorials, company policies, best-practice recommendations, and dynamic information like videos, interactive questionnaires, and well-formatted business intelligence reports.
As an example, Guided Journeys can help an employee requesting a leave of absence (LOA). It can access transaction- and employee-specific information like tenure, career level, and geographic region to provide precise instructions, including applicable portions of the company’s LOA policy. This is a vastly better experience than searching through endless intranet sites on a quest for the documentation and instructions.
Though Guided Journeys is mainly used with Oracle HCM Cloud, it can increasingly be used with Oracle SCM Cloud as well. For customers with an Oracle Cloud HCM subscription, there are no additional license costs or fees.
AI can change the user experience
Now, we’re adding the option for you to integrate GenAI services with Guided Journeys. This is significant because it offers the flexibility to supplement process flows with help from GenAI almost anywhere you want and with only modest technical effort. Your choice of GenAI services is not limited to commercial products; useful applications may come from linking proprietary LLMs trained on your enterprise data.
It’s also worth noting that this capability isn’t intended to replace GenAI embedded across Fusion Apps. Rather, it gives you the choice of where and how to augment process flows with AI. For an explanation of how Guided Journeys uses REST APIs to connect to GenAI services, including privacy and security details, please see this related how-to post.
What you can do with Guided Journeys and GenAI
There are thousands of potentially useful ways to deploy this capability, which include providing users with guidance for:
- Employee-onboarding forms (e.g., tax-election recommendations)
- Employee wellness and engagement resources (e.g., nutrition guidance)
- Diversity and inclusion training and awareness programs
- Work visa applications (e.g., assistance based on national origin)
- Occupational health and safety guidance (e.g., up-to-date material safety advisories)
- Adherence to purchasing policies
- Quality management (e.g., creating a list of inspection characteristics)
But there are limits
Although adding AI to Guided Journeys opens up many possibilities, it is not a cure-all—nor is it a free-for-all. We are taking a measured approach that includes limitations on how Guided Journeys is used with AI services (we may revisit these limitations in the future). For example:
- Off by default: As of Release 24B, these features are not shipped by default. You must raise a Support ticket to get them enabled in your instance.
- Data controls: The information passed from Fusion Apps pages is limited to predefined choices selected during Guided Journeys setup.
- Preconfigured prompts: We are not permitting end users to enter free text prompts to AI services. Administrators must configure prompts during setup.
- Text only: GenAI responses are limited to formatted text.
Conclusion
Guided Journeys enhances the end-user experience by providing personalized and context-sensitive guidance. The addition of AI, particularly GenAI, creates new opportunities for you to foster a more responsive, informed, and productive workforce. While we are taking a measured approach and imposing some limitations, you still have the flexibility to put this technology to immediate use for a superior end-user experience.
