The next Oracle Database release is available!

As years go by, Oracle database names tend to change,  the latest Oracle Database 23 is now 23ai. Some may recall Oracle Database 8i with the ‘i’ for ‘internet’. This time, acknowledging the significance of AI technology, the Oracle Database release 23c is now renamed to Oracle Database 23ai.

The following post summarizes important details and links on this topic.

Beginning of May, the press announced the general availability of the latest release of Oracle’s converged database in Oracle Database 23ai Brings the Power of AI to Enterprise Data and Applications. What features and offerings characterize this release?

23ai is available cloud-first, i.e. in Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer, OCI Exadata Database Service and OCI Base Database Service and in Oracle Database@Azure.
Please refer to the My Oracle Support Note Release Schedule of Current Database Releases (Doc ID 742060.1) for details and (future) updates on platform availability.

In addition to this, there are three FREE Oracle Database offerings for developers to try out 23ai:

23ai includes features such as Oracle AI Vector Search, True Cache, Property Graph, JSON relational duality, Priority Transactions, Data Use Case Domains, increased limits, new data types and many more features with a focus on simplifying the use of AI with data, accelerating app development, and running mission-critical workloads. The complete list of features is available in the documentation or on the product pages:

Oracle’s converged database features such as Property Graph, JSON, XML and more are contained in all Oracle database offerings and thus also Oracle AI Vector Search. Interested in more information about licensing? Then refer to the following resources.

There is a wealth of excellent postings from product management, Oracle colleagues and partners. I want to highlight this here: Oracle Database 23ai: Where to find information. It summarizes and lists a large number of postings about the topic Oracle Database 23ai – ordered by different categories.

In case you used our 23c category for postings on oracle.com/coretec and the GitHub links, it has changed. We’ve begun revising our release 23 posts, adjusting them as needed, and started to create short videos. You can find them now here:
