At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we’re dedicated to delivering Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) that enables you to improve workforce security, flexibility, and consistency. Today, we’re excited to announce a slate of new features in the OCI Secure Desktops service that significantly enhance desktop manageability, auditing, and user experience. These advancements – Non-Persistent Desktops, Auditing, Flexible OS Images, Webcam support – were carefully designed to address your needs.

Non-Persistent Desktops for Cost Optimization

We’re excited to introduce support for non-persistent desktop pools. With this option, user desktops are temporary and are automatically deleted after a grace period once the user disconnects. Non-persistent pools are a great fit for organizations balancing fast-changing user populations with cost control needs, as you can assign more users than the total of desktops in the pool, freeing up resources as soon as user sessions end. This feature also ensures session data isn’t retained, raising the security baseline in use cases with temporary desktop needs.

Comprehensive Auditing for Enhanced Security Management

Security and compliance begin with full visibility into your environment. OCI Secure Desktops now offers powerful auditing capabilities, allowing pool administrators to access a real-time view of all actions taken on every desktop within a pool. See the last action performed, upcoming scheduled tasks, and each user’s connection status including when they connected and how long they remained active.

All audit events are stored in the OCI event log. This central repository of historical telemetry means administrators can now easily retrieve data, analyze trends, and demonstrate compliance as needed. These enhancements not only enable finer-grained oversight but also help strengthen your organization’s overall security posture.

Flexible Pool OS Image Updates

Your OS golden image is now more adaptable than ever. Administrators can update the custom image used to provision desktops in existing pools, helping you quickly deploy security patches, configuration improvements, or software upgrades. When a pool’s image is updated, all stand-by desktop instances automatically refresh, ensuring new desktops are based on the latest image. To update desktops already in use, just remove the user-assigned desktop and let Secure Desktops deliver a new, up-to-date instance upon the next connection. This workflow delivers maximum image agility with minimal manual intervention. In addition to this, we’re introducing support for local webcams within OCI Secure Desktops, allowing users to access their own webcams from inside their virtual desktop’s session.

Secure. Flexible. Consistent.

With these new features, OCI Secure Desktops continues to lead the way in secure, easy-to-manage virtual desktop infrastructure. Whether you’re a pool administrator seeking rich insight, an IT leader needing greater flexibility, or an end user looking for seamless access, you’ll find our DaaS solution delivers tangible value aligned with your needs.

Stay tuned for more updates – we’re committed to empowering your teams, wherever and however they work.
