Notification of the end of orderability for OCI E2 Compute shapes

On April 29, 2020, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) introduced new E3 shapes for its Compute service. Today, we’re announcing the end of orderability (EOO) for the E2 shapes. Your existing E2 shapes are still supported. However, OCI can’t ensure fulfillment of extra capacity after the end of orderability on February 8, 2021. The following E2 shapes are now out of orderability:

  • OCI Compute bare metal Standard E2 (BM.StandardE2.64)

  • OCI Compute virtual machine Standard E2 (VM.StandardE2.X)–All shapes: 1, 2, 4, and 8 OCPUs

Guidance for E2 customers

  • If you’re an existing monthly universal credit customer currently using the E2 EOO SKUs, OCI continues to support your usage in all regions in which E2 shapes are currently offered. We might not provide any further limit increases for E2 EOO SKUs in the regions with limited capacity and recommend alternate shapes for further growth (E3 or X7). If your workload can’t be launched on an alternate shape instance, work with your customer ops contact who can guide you to alternate regions where E2 capacity is available.

  • If you’re a new monthly universal credit customer, you have access to E2 SKUs in regions where capacity is available. For regions with limited E2 capacity, we recommend that you launch instances using alternate shapes, as listed in the following table, to ensure that you can launch instances.

  • If you are a non-universal credit customer, we recommend that you launch instances using alternate shapes as listed in the table.

The following table illustrates the comparable recommended AMD-based E3 or Intel-based X7 shapes for each E2 SKU.
