Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Kubernetes Engine (OKE) now supports Kubernetes v1.37, enabling customers to use the latest upstream Kubernetes capabilities for more efficient scaling, stronger workload identity, resilient cluster operations, and improved management of specialized resources.

Highlights:

  • HorizontalPodAutoscaler scale to zero (Beta): Allows workloads that use object or external metrics to scale down to zero Pods while idle and scale back up when demand returns, helping reduce resource consumption and cost for event-driven, batch, and GPU workloads.
  • Resilient watch cache initialization (Stable): Strengthens API server startup and recovery by preventing expensive list and watch requests from overwhelming etcd while caches warm, improving control-plane resilience in large clusters.
  • Pod certificates and ClusterTrustBundles (Stable): Adds first-class Kubernetes APIs for distributing workload X.509 certificates and trust anchors to Pods, simplifying certificate-based workload identity and secure service communication.
  • Dynamic Resource Allocation enhancements (Stable): Improves the management of GPUs, network interfaces, and other specialized devices with extended-resource compatibility, device taints and tolerations, standardized NUMA topology data, and richer device status reporting.

These improvements help customers operate resilient clusters, optimize resource use, strengthen workload identity, and run AI/ML and other resource-intensive applications at scale.

You can start using Kubernetes v1.37 on OKE today by creating new clusters or upgrading existing ones through the Oracle Cloud Console, CLI, API, SDK, and Terraform.
