In simple terms, cloud computing allows you to rent your IT instead of buying it. Instead of investing in software and equipment, companies are opting to access their compute resources through the internet and pay for them as used from a cloud provider. An industry-leading cloud provider has a responsibility to manage the customer’s IT and provide a complete portfolio of modern infrastructure, platform, and software services to help customers keep pace with market demands.
Customers want the same complete portfolio of modern cloud services when choosing an on-premises public cloud offering. Unlike Amazon Web Service (AWS) Outposts, Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer brings a full set of services across three layers of the cloud. Cloud@Customer is the only on-premises public cloud solution to bring an integrated cloud experience for infrastructure, platform, and software services into a customer’s data center. Let’s explore the ways in which Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer can assist customers in meeting their business requirements.
You can implement a broader set of workloads because Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer has a full set of Compute shapes (flexible and bare metal), storage services (block, object, and archive) and other infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) services. Outposts has only six out of over 40 AWS EC2 Instance Types, as of April 2021. It also doesn’t support file storage, Amazon EFS, or archive storage, AWS Glacier. Domain name service (Amazon Route 53) is also not supported, running only in the AWS public cloud, and adds latency to on-premises workloads. Their object storage, Amazon S3 on Outposts, is also less scalable than the object storage running in the AWS public cloud, Amazon S3.
Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer has a full set of Oracle Cloud platform services, including data management in Autonomous Data Warehouse and Autonomous Transaction Processing, analytics in Analytics Cloud, Streaming, and Big Data Service, integration with Integration Cloud and Data Integrator, and other Oracle platform-as-a-service (PaaS) services. Outposts has only a small subset of the AWS PaaS services, and data management services, such as Aurora, Redshift, Kinesis, QuickSight, and other AWS PaaS services, are not supported. Also, Amazon RDS on AWS Outposts doesn’t support Oracle Database.
Because Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer can run Oracle Fusion SaaS applications, such as ERP, HCM, and CRM, customers can implement a more extensive set of workloads. AWS Outposts doesn’t support any enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS), which limits it from providing out-of-the box business values.
With the strength of a complete cloud stack, customers can integrate every part of their technology processes in Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer. Enjoy single-vendor support and deployment options across the full spectrum of services to drive better results faster. While Outposts does have some of AWS’s infrastructure and platform services, its lack of enterprise SaaS limits its ability to integrate and extend across all layers of cloud. The integrated cloud stack of Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer delivers results faster, simpler, and more reliably to meet customers’ broader C-level and LOB-level requirements.
