Today, we’re excited to announce BM.Optimized3.36 as a new ESXi host option for Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS).

As customers modernize VMware environments on OCI, they need more than a migration destination. They need the right infrastructure for the right workload. Some applications need storage density. Others need larger memory footprints. Many need efficient compute performance, high-speed networking, and a cost model that aligns with how the workload actually runs.

BM.Optimized3.36 expands the OCVS portfolio with a  36-OCPU optimized Intel host option for compute-sensitive VMware workloads. Built on the OCI bare metal Optimized3 platform and powered by Intel® Xeon® 6354 processors, the shape provides 36 OCPUs, 512 GB of memory, 3.84 TB of local NVMe storage, 2 x 50 Gbps networking, and 1 x 100 Gbps RDMA, as listed in the OCI Compute Shapes specification.

For OCVS customers, this creates a new placement option for workloads that need strong processor performance and high-speed networking without requiring a larger, storage-heavy host profile. It gives customers another way to design clusters around application performance, workload density, and total cost planning.

OCVS already supports multiple ESXi host shapes and lets customers define clusters for different workload and cost requirements. Customers can also add hosts of different shapes when they use the same processor vendor, subject to the selected shape and cluster design. What workloads are a good fit?

BM.Optimized3.36 is a strong candidate for VMware workloads that are compute-sensitive, moderately memory-intensive, and not primarily constrained by local storage capacity.

BM.Optimized3.36 may not be the best fit for workloads that require large local vSAN capacity, very high memory per host, or storage-heavy consolidation. Those workloads may continue to fit better on DenseIO, Standard, or GPU shapes depending on the customer’s architecture.

Availability

BM.Optimized3.36 for Oracle Cloud VMware Solution is available in the following regions listed here. Customers can check availability in the OCI Console when creating or expanding an OCVS SDDC, or through OCI APIs and automation workflows that list supported OCVS host shapes. Since regional capacity can vary, customers should work with their Oracle account team to validate availability for their target region and deployment timeline.
