Two new hands-on workshops in Oracle LiveLabs guide you through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Internet of Things Platform (OCI IoT Platform), from setting up your tenancy and defining digital twin models and instances to viewing normalized device data. Designed to be completed consecutively, the labs provide a practical foundation for developing applications and agentic solutions that depend on real-time device data.

A LiveLab is a guided workshop that takes you through a product workflow step-by-step. You work with the tools and resources described in the lab, rather than only reading about them. These two workshops start with setting up your OCI IoT Platform instance and defining digital twin models. You then walk through configuring both directly and indirectly connected devices, using a sample manufacturing use case.

Get started with OCI IoT Platform

The first workshop teaches you how to set up OCI IoT Platform within your tenancy. Once the service is configured, you work through a water pump scenario using a directly connected device. You model a factory and production line, define a water pump model with a motor component, and create adapters to normalize different telemetry formats. You then create digital twin instances and relationships, send device telemetry, and view the normalized data in OCI IoT Platform.

The workshop takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. It gives you a foundation for modeling connected assets and working with their data in OCI IoT Platform.

Factory scenario with two production lines and directly connected water pumps is shown as two parallel production lines with their respective pumps.

Work with gateways in OCI IoT Platform

The second workshop focuses on equipment that cannot connect directly to OCI. Building on the first lab, you create a gateway digital twin, configure a routing adapter, and register indirectly connected water pumps. You publish their telemetry through one MQTT connection and check how OCI routes and maps each message to the right twin.

This workshop takes approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes. The first workshop is a prerequisite, so it is the best place to begin if you are new to this scenario.

Start the workshops

Start with the digital twin workshop to learn the model and telemetry flow, then use the gateway workshop to extend that flow to indirectly connected equipment. Together, the labs offer a practical path from representing an asset to bringing its data into OCI IoT Platform.
