As organizations extend business-critical applications across Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), reliable private DNS resolution becomes essential. Azure applications need to resolve Oracle database endpoints, while Oracle database resources often need to resolve against Azure-private services.
Historically, enabling this connectivity required manual coordination across networking, database, and cloud platform teams. Managing DNS forwarding rules, listening endpoints, private DNS zones, resolvers, and network policies across two cloud environments can slow deployments and increase operational overhead.
Today, Oracle is announcing DNS resolution for Oracle Exadata Database on Dedicated Infrastructure with Oracle AI Database@Azure. This new capability simplifies bidirectional private DNS resolution between Azure and OCI, reducing manual configuration and providing a more consistent foundation for multicloud connectivity. This capability will be available to customers through Network Anchor, a Multicloud bridge resource between Azure and OCI used for sharing Azure network and DNS configuration information between the two clouds.
Simplifying multicloud DNS
Many organizations centrally manage private DNS to maintain governance and consistency. As applications and databases span Azure and OCI, extending that model across clouds often requires significant coordination and ongoing maintenance.
DNS forwarding and listening simplifies this process by automating private DNS resolution between Azure and OCI. Instead of treating DNS as a separate integration project, organizations can establish a consistent approach that supports production deployments while reducing administrative effort.
Capabilities enabling seamless connectivity
DNS forwarding and listening enables Oracle database resources to resolve Azure-private DNS names by forwarding queries to Azure DNS endpoints, while allowing Azure applications to resolve private DNS names for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure through dedicated DNS listening endpoints. In addition, private DNS zone replication copies OCI private DNS zones into Azure, reducing the need to manually synchronize DNS records and enabling Azure workloads to resolve OCI-exclusive private names. Together, these capabilities provide a consistent DNS experience across both cloud environments, simplifying operations and improving connectivity between applications and databases.
Reducing operational complexity
DNS forwarding/listening endpoint automation provides a repeatable model for connecting Azure and OCI environments instead of requiring teams to recreate DNS configuration for every deployment. Organizations can align DNS behavior with their existing architecture while maintaining centralized control over private DNS zones and governance policies. The result is faster deployment of Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, reduced DNS administration, standardized name resolution across Azure and OCI, and simpler collaboration between networking, database, and platform teams.
A simpler path to production
Reliable DNS resolution is foundational to application connectivity. Whether Azure applications need to reach Oracle databases or database resources need to access Azure-private services for monitoring, backup, or integration, DNS forwarding and listening removes much of the complexity traditionally associated with multicloud DNS management.
Automating private DNS resolution and private DNS zone management helps organizations build a more reliable networking foundation for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure. This leads to a smoother path from provisioning to production, with fewer manual configuration steps, more consistent DNS resolution, and simplified connectivity between Azure applications and Oracle database services.
