Today, we’re announcing the general availability of Oracle Search Service with OpenSearch in all regions. This service makes it easy for customers to ingest, search, visualize, and analyze data. This managed service is the first of many others currently in development, marking a new era for OCI: Managed open source software services.
OCI and OpenSearch
As a managed insight engine running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we remove the operational burden of managing search infrastructure by automating typical maintenance activities, including patching, updating, upgrading, backups, and resizing—all without downtime. Customers can store, search, and analyze huge volumes of data quickly and see results in near real time. Instead of searching data directly, the service searches an index.
OpenSearch and OpenDashboards were forked from Elasticsearch and Kibana (7.10.2) in 2021 and now operate as a separate open source project supported by a growing community, including Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS), who have partnered as key contributing members. OpenSearch is now the preferred search choice for hundreds of enterprises.
Because our service is uniquely based on OCI Flex infrastructure, you specify the exact number of CPUs, memory, and storage required for your specific needs. When you need scalability, you can size up horizontally or vertically, on the fly, without downtime. Use the same APIs currently in place for existing Elasticsearch-style use cases, like application search or log analytics, and point them to our OpenSearch endpoints to get up and running quickly.
OCI Search Service with OpenSearch is fully integrated with OCI Identity and Access Management (IAM) and inherits OCI’s simple, integrated, and prescriptive security philosophy, providing zero-trust access controls and authorization policies.
The service allows you to easily evaluate and onboard with low upfront costs and is cost-competitive in the market. You can configure a cluster within the managed service for the exact same price as hosting directly on infrastructure. The only time you see a charge from OCI Search Service with OpenSearch is when high-availability clusters are provisioned. Furthermore, the service is 30–50% less expensive compared to other leading cloud providers.
With OCI Search Service with OpenSearch, you no longer need to worry about operational overhead. Automated cluster deployment, including automatic backups and patching, reduces the infrastructure maintenance burden, allowing you to instead focus on actionable insights.
Log analytics
Store, investigate, and connect event data to find, fix, or prevent issues as fast as possible and enhance application performance. Seamlessly expand your cluster size for seasonal fluctuations in event data. A travel incentive company, for example, can use OCI Search Service with OpenSearch to analyze call volume across multiple providers to quickly target and resolve issues, so their customer requests reach the intended team.
Search
Datasets constantly increase in size, and a fast, customized search experience is necessary for your applications, websites, and large data repositories. OCI Search Service with OpenSearch enables fast results-based indexes and is popular for quickly retrieving time-based on the frequency of the data and pages being sourced. A photo archiving business can render picture results faster for images that have been requested recently, while moving older and less accessed images to warm storage to keep the indexing as fast as possible, while simultaneously optimizing storage spending.
