This is first of the blogs in the Best practices series for Fusion Analytics.

This blog details several important best practices to follow while administering Fusion Analytics as of Release 22.R2.

Key topics covered are listed below.

  1. Activation of Oracle Fusion Analytics Warehouse Subscription
  2. Update Email for Notifications
  3. Ensure the Data Source Connection Details are Always Valid
  4. Uptake Release Updates and Stay Current
  5. Monitor and Respond to Pipeline Notifications
  6. Use Bundles to Migrate Application Artifacts

Activation of Oracle Fusion Analytics Warehouse Subscription

You must have an Oracle Cloud account with Universal Credits subscription (UCC) to provision Fusion Analytics Warehouse

Best practice is to use the same cloud account as Oracle Application Cloud for Fusion Analytics Warehouse

If Oracle cloud account for Oracle Application Cloud does not have Universal Credits (UCC) activated in it, work with the Sales Representative to get a new Universal Credits PAYG subscription.Universal Credits PAYG has an expiration period. You would need to activate Universal Credits before it expires.

The order of activation matters. It is important to ensure Universal Credits is activated in the cloud account first before proceeding to activate Fusion Analytics Warehouse Subscription.

The Cloud Admin of the Cloud Account for Oracle Application Cloud should activate Fusion Analytics Warehouse subscription after the Universal Credits Subscription activation

Update Email for Notifications

Communications and notifications regarding your FAW service, such as updates about patching, upcoming upgrades, and downtime impacting the service, are sent to the email address used for account creation. At any point in time, as the service administrator, you can update this email address.

Steps to manage your email notifications are documented in the Oracle Help Center at Update the Notification Email

As a best practice, it is a good idea to:

  • Ensure that the specified email address is always current.
  • Use a distribution list as opposed to a single recipient to ensure there is always someone or the other that is a recipient of the communication.
  •

Ensure the Data Source Connection Details are Always Valid

It is important that the connection details of the data source you specified for FAW are valid so connectivity is successful at all points in time.

If you are using the FAWService user password for authentication, then ensure that it is current. There are times when the FAWService user password may be out of sync on the source Oracle Cloud Applications Pod.

As a best practice, it is the FAW administrator’s responsibility to ensure the validity of the data source connection details.

For more details on steps to update the data source connection information, please refer to Update the Data Source Connection Details.

Uptake Release Updates and Stay Current

As the FAW service administrator, you can schedule the latest update of the current release and schedule uptake of a major release by a deadline. On the deadline, Oracle auto-updates your application.

To avoid a forced update at an inconvenient time, it is considered best practice to:

  • After the announcement of a major release, the service administrator should make a note of the auto-update date on the development/test instance(s) and production instance.
  • Adjust the auto-update date on development/test instance(s) as needed.
  • Ensure that the update isn’t scheduled at a time when there are full loads in progress to ensure the upgrade is successful.
  • Complete adequate testing on development/test instance(s).
  • Ensure that the update on production is completed at an earlier date or on the auto upgrade scheduled date as convenient.

For detailed steps on scheduling updates, please refer to Manage Application Updates.

Monitor and Respond to Pipeline Notifications

In addition to ensuring the validity of data source connection details, it is a best practice to check periodically to determine if any action is needed in order to ensure the smooth flowing of the FAW pipeline.

As a FAW service sdministrator, you can verify the smooth flowing of FAW Pipeline by checking the Pipeline Parameters.

If the pipeline is in a disabled state, you see an error message. If that occurs, then as a service administrator, you can re-enable the data pipeline after fixing the issue.

For more reference please refer to Disable data Pipeline.

  1. Use Bundles to Migrate Application Artifacts

Oracle Fusion Analytics Warehouse Release 22.R2 supports the configuration of application artifacts as bundles.

Use bundles for:

  1. Backing up  and restoring FAW customizations.
  2. Migrating customizations between environments.
  3. Packaging and sharing customizations across tenancies.
  4. Deploying customizations from multiple users.
  5. Applying select customizations from one environment to another.
