Oracle Academy staff and two Oracle Volunteers, colleagues Roxana Popa and Georgiana Oancea, worked together and organized an online event on 28 May 2024, with the goal of increasing awareness of Oracle APEX among university students from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE).
The event started with the introduction of the event by Camelia Ditescu, Oracle Academy country manager, followed by a presentation by Roxana Popa, Cloud Systems Principal Solution Engineer, and Georgiana Oancea, Member of the Product Development Team/Database Technologies Cloud. Those 63 student participants had the opportunity to work together with our colleagues.
Roxana had her first contact with Oracle Database in college (The Bucharest University of Economic Studies), where her database professors involved students in the Oracle Academy program, which gave them access to useful resources and learning materials and was a door opener to real-world skills and opportunities. This is why she wanted to become involved in presenting to current students in these types of workshops, to give back.
“Oracle Academy has been our collaborator for more than two decades, participating regularly in our students’ activity at the bachelor and master courses and guiding the students’ learning process in databases technology aspects,” said Anda Belciu, PhD, Associate Professor at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Databases – Support for Business Master. “For the workshop, Roxana, Georgiana, and Camelia came with an interesting APEX lab on how to develop a social media app. All the students were actively involved and solved most of the tasks while the presenters guided them through the process. It was nice to see the interest and interaction between the Oracle Academy team and the master students. Thank you so much!”
“During the Oracle workshop, we used APEX to create a low-code social media app to upload and like pictures. I found it surprising how easy APEX makes creating a reactive app, that works both on desktop and mobile, as well as the many features provided by a simple toggle or drop-down button,” commented Ruxandra Marinescu, a student at the university.
“I always thought that attending workshops is motivating and inspiring, as they provide opportunities to learn from industry experts and thought leaders.
That’s why from the moment I received the invitation to participate in this workshop, I was happy to get involved, prepare, and deliver the session with my colleague Roxana. It was a great pleasure for me to participate in this event and share my knowledge about Oracle APEX with the audience,” said Georgiana Oancea. “I think it is really important for students to take part in this kind of session and meet us, the people who are working daily with those technologies they are studying in the university, and see the applicability and the added value of that product/solution. I would like to applaud Anda’s initiative to support this initiative by exposing the students to new ideas, approaches, and success stories that can fuel their motivation and drive for personal and professional growth.”
“Anda invited us to present Oracle APEX and cloud solutions to her students, who were actively learning about these topics in class. It’s good to see how the professors from ASE prepare their students for the real world by correlating theory with practice, which I think makes a difference when they launch their careers. We organized a hands-on workshop with the students, where we created together a social media application with Oracle APEX. Their level of engagement was impressive! They actively participated and had a lot of questions, making the session dynamic and interactive. It was inspiring to see their strong knowledge base and interest in cloud and modern development solutions that are now in high demand,” said Roxana Popa.
