Oracle Academy spotlighted at the Kenya EDTech Summit

In a timely event that resonated with the fusion of education and technology, Oracle inaugurated the spotlight session and delivered the keynote speech at the Kenya EDTech Summit. The two-day event took place on 20th – 21st September 2023, at the Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA). The participants marked a significant gathering of education and technology leaders from across the region.

The Kenya EdTech Summit serves as a gathering for representatives from the public and private sectors, aiming to propel the edtech ecosystem toward evidence-based, technology-enabled teaching and learning. Co-created by EDTech East Africa and partners, the summit brings togethers academia, edtech entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders. The overarching goal is to foster a connected, evidence-driven movement that utilizes technology to establish an inclusive, effective, and resilient learning system in Kenya.

The spotlight session, the highlight of the summit, featured an array of innovative showcases, engaging discussions, profound insights, and inspiring moments. Oracle's keynote address, titled "Oracle's Support for Education and Innovation in Kenya" set the tone for a session dedicated to exploring how technology can transform innovation and education in Kenya.

Oracle Academy was featured for its commendable efforts in empowering innovative students.

The Oracle Academy program, spotlighted for its commendable initiatives, empowers students to learn how to build scalable and secure enterprise applications, addressing critical global issues aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), utilizing Oracle APEX (Application Express).

APEX is a low-code development platform that allows students to create robust applications with minimal coding effort. This hands-on experience provides students with valuable skills in a user-friendly development environment. Through Oracle APEX, students gain practical insights into creating applications that can address critical global issues, contributing to a more sustainable and technology-driven future. Through initiatives like these, Oracle Academy is nurturing a culture of innovation and social responsibility among the youth in Kenya.

The keynote speech was delivered by Joe Kanyua, the Director of Client Engagements & Programs, Sub-Saharan Africa on behalf of Oracle Kenya Country Director, David Bunei.

 “Oracle recognizes that education is the cornerstone of progress and innovation. In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the demand for skilled professionals in information technology and computer science has never been higher. Kenya, like many other nations, faces the challenge of preparing its workforce to meet this demand. Oracle, through its philanthropic education initiative, Oracle Academy, has taken up the mantle to help address this challenge,” - Joe Kanyua.

A heartfelt thank you was extended to the EDTech East Africa team for organizing an exceptional event. The dedication to advancing education through technology was truly commendable, and the summit provided valuable insights and networking opportunities for the delegates. Oracle Academy applauded the participants continued efforts to enhance education though technology, ensuring a brighter future for the youth of Kenya.
