The Oracle Race Data Experience Center

Oracle has opened a 'Race Data Experience Center' in its Dutch office in Utrecht. The title partner of current world champion F1® team Oracle Red Bull Racing actively introduces users behind the wheel of a real racing simulator and to the data, analytics, and cloud technology that lead to winning racing strategies. The aim is to show users how data analytics help adapt and improve behavior and decision-making in a business setting. At the same time, Oracle playfully demonstrates the power and unparalleled possibilities of modern technologies such as AI, machine learning, and the cloud.

In the Utrecht experience center, Oracle customers and partners, schools, and universities, can gain a better understanding of how Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is used to improve prediction accuracy and sharpen decision-making.

Speed, scale, and reliability for victory

The Oracle Red Bull Racing team expanded its partnership with Oracle and relies on Oracle Cloud to drive its racing strategy and fan engagement. OCI's performance allows the world champion team to perform real-time analysis during every race to make strategic decisions.

“As a technology company with data at the beating heart of our company, we work every day to bring our many years of extensive knowledge to our customers and partners as best as possible. Our mission is to help them with their challenges and get the most out of data. With the Oracle Race Data Experience Center, we show how companies can benefit from the same technology that contributes to the remarkable success of Oracle Red Bull Racing,” said Wilfred Scholman, Country Leader, Oracle Netherlands.

Collaboration with educational institutions

Educators and their students are enthusiastic about the Oracle Race Data Experience Center and the possibilities of IT and technology.

“It is wonderful that Oracle contributes in this way to providing educators and students with knowledge and enthusiasm for the role of IT and technology,” says Sam Leewis, HBO-ICT teacher/researcher at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. “There are many Formula 1 fans among our students, both boys and girls. Combining both worlds is a golden move.”

Oracle Academy powers student events at the Oracle Race Data Experience Center

The Oracle Race Data Experience Center at the Utrecht office has played a key role in local student events. Since the center has been opened, multiple student events have welcomed more than 450 students and 21 teachers from 11 different institutions.

Each event is customized to fit the target group. Sometimes this means a combination of visiting the center with a lecture on Oracle Health Insurance, Data-Driven Sports, Databases, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, or AI/ML. Other times students are challenged to find a solution to a business case. They work on them in breakout groups and present them to a jury of Oracle experts. The prize? Racing a few laps on the F1 Zandvoort Circuit in the simulator!

Debbie Boetzkes, Program Manager for Oracle Academy in BeNeLux, based in Utrecht, is responsible for the student events at the office. She says: “It's so rewarding to organize these events, because students in The Netherlands are already familiar with Formula 1 and have seen the Oracle sticker on the car, but they hardly know what the collaboration between Oracle and Oracle Red Bull Racing really entails. They get to our office thinking it’s ‘just’ a sponsorship but are then blown away when they learn the full power of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure behind it. Combining the visits with lectures on other parts of our technologies make the visits extra informative. Teachers love this, as it really adds value to their classes. We have received positive feedback so far. It’s great fun to be able to use the Oracle Race Data Experience Center to open our doors to teachers and students. Recently one of the teachers who joined us in one of the last student events stated, ‘Today really has put Oracle back on the map for us.’ And that is exactly what we want to achieve.”
