On November 8, 2023, Oracle Academy and Oracle partners Droppar, Tripwire Solutions, Exitas, Rkitek, Monin, Bryxx and Contribute organized a joint student event at the Oracle office in Vilvoorde. More than 40 students from eight different Oracle Academy member universities across the country attended, representing a range of study backgrounds, including Applied Computer Science, IT & Business, Cloud & Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Data Engineering, Mobile and Enterprise Development, and Application Development.
After receiving a warm welcome by Jan Ronsse, Country Leader, Oracle Belgium, the students listened to short presentations from the companies present, giving them insight into the work of the country’s broad group of partners working with Oracle technology.
The students learned all about data-driven successes in sports such as SailGP, the Premier League, and of course, Oracle Red Bull Racing, presented by Tom Bailliu, Account Cloud Engineer at Oracle. Tom explained how the partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing is driven by data and how Oracle’s technology is involved in race strategy, young driver development, engine development, and fan experience.
Tom also demonstrated how SailGP, sailing’s fastest racing league, relies on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to deliver real-time data to the league’s eight national teams, broadcast partners, and fans worldwide.
OCI helps teams optimize performance, analyzing no less than 240,000 data points, and give fans a thrilling new experience. SailGP uses OCI and Oracle Autonomous Database to stream real-time race metrics to athletes and fans. Doing so reduces the league’s costs and IT complexity while providing a deeper understanding of team and athlete performance, supporting the league’s goal to lower its carbon footprint.
After this interesting presentation, the students then split into three groups to attend a hands-on workshop of their choice on various topics, based on the following Oracle Live Labs:
The labs were prepared and adjusted especially for this event with the help of technical experts Robert Pastijn, Distinguished Product Manager, and Christophe de Backer, Principal Technology Architect at Oracle.
At the end of this intensive but fun afternoon, the students made solid connections during the networking event and were able to challenge each other on the racing simulators, winning fun prizes.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success, and most of all a big thanks to all the students who participated!
