On March 20, 2024, Oracle Academy hosted a virtual Faculty Day for all Romanian professors from member high schools and universities. The event was a success according to attendees, which encompassed 67 teachers from a variety of high schools and 27 universities from across the country.

All participants had the opportunity to make the connection between the Oracle Academy program offering and the demand for skilled professionals in the information technology labor market.

The event was opened by Camelia Ditescu, Program Manager Oracle Academy Romania and Moldova, followed by a welcome keynote by Jane Richardson, Senior Director Oracle Academy EMEA.

Willie McCrae, Principal Instructor, Oracle Academy, provided the participants with a brief description of Oracle APEX, Oracle Cloud, and Primavera, allowing each participant to understand the use of each technology in teaching students. Ciprian Pustianu, Principal Solutions Specialist Engineer, presented on Oracle APEX’s position in the market and how useful APEX knowledge is for future graduates.

Ruxandra Vlad, Principal Talent Advisor, EMEA Talent Acquisition, led a presentation from the recruitment team emphasizing the value of Oracle APEX, Java, database and cloud knowledge for university graduates looking for careers across industries but especially in the IT field.

Alin Chiriac, Founder and CEO of Adfaber, along with two of the winners of the Java competition – Programming in Greenfoot – also presented. “Participating in the 'Faculty Day' organized by Oracle Academy, I had the unique opportunity to share our perspective on the impact of educational projects such as Learn to Program with Alice, Learn to Program with Greenfoot, Edb Startup, and the event organized for girls on March 8, all held in partnership with Oracle Academy. Seeing the presentations of the other speakers as well as the teachers' feedback about the resources and educational tools provided, I realized that we are in unison in our mission to bring technology closer to education. The benefit was illustrated by the young people who told how their way of thinking and working changed after participating in the Greenfoot competition,” said Alin.

We thank all the participants and speakers; special thanks additionally to Rodica Smintina, Oracle Academy Instructor for Romania and Moldova, who provides weekly Office Hour learning question and answer sessions, sharing the very latest information with our members. We look forward to our next event presenting professors with additional useful information from the IT field.
