On April 11, 2023, Oracle Academy hosted a Java-focused event for our faculty members in Singapore at members National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Faculty attended the event in the Oracle Singapore office, which was led by Heather VanCura, Oracle Senior Director and Chair of the Java Community Process (JCP) program that has responsibility for the development of Java technology. As an open, inclusive organization of active members and non-member public input, JCP primarily guides the development and approval of Java technical specifications.

Highlights of the event were the keynote speeches delivered by renowned Java experts from Oracle industry partners such as Alibaba, IBM, JetBrains, MasterCard, and Zenika. The experts shared insights on the latest features and advancements in the Java programming language. Attendees were able to gain valuable knowledge and perspectives on how to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving world of Java and the challenges and opportunities in Java development and life of a Java Cloud developer.

Another feature of the event was the introduction of Oracle Academy free Java teaching resources, which can be incredibly valuable to educators and learners alike.  Attendees were able to learn more about these resources and explore how they could incorporate them into their teaching and learning.

“The Java Faculty Day provided members of the Singapore academic community with an opportunity to have direct access to the JCP program Executive Committee members involved in the evolution of the Java technology platform specifications, as well as learn of the current opportunities and challenges that are available to them and their students as they approach graduation and make their transition from academia to industry,” said VanCura. “The feedback and insights from the faculty attending were invaluable to us as we continue our work in the JCP program to meet the needs of industry and build the next generation of Java developers.”

The Java Faculty Day provided a welcoming space for open dialogue and exchange of ideas, allowing attendees to connect with industry experts and peers. Oracle Academy looks forward to hosting more events like this in the future, and encourages everyone to stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to connect and learn.
