Oracle Academy, in collaboration with Pwani Teknowgalz and American Spaces, conducted a Java Skills Workshop for university young women students on June 20, 2026, in Mombasa, Kenya. The half-day workshop brought together educators and female students from Pwani University, the Technical University of Mombasa, and the Pwani Teknowgalz alumni network.
The initiative provided participants with a practical introduction to software development through technical learning, hands-on coding exercises, mentorship, and career guidance. The workshop created an interactive environment where students wrote their first Java programs, explored object-oriented programming concepts, and gained greater insight into pathways for developing technology skills.
Participants also engaged with industry leaders and explored opportunities to continue building their knowledge through structured learning resources. The session demonstrated how practical coding experiences, combined with mentorship and access to learning tools, could help students strengthen their confidence and prepare for future opportunities in technology.
