Year after year, the Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT) organizes a roundtable event, “BAIT in Support of Education,” to discuss key topics of impact to education, especially the support that IT companies and organizations can provide to STEM education.
This year there were two topics of discussion; the first one, in which Oracle took part, was “Artificial Intelligence in Support of Educational Process” and the second one was “Mathematics at the Heart of Technology”.
Beside Krasimir Valchev, the Minister of Education and Science, panelists for the first topic included representatives from Oracle, Telelink Business Services, and Kontrax, as well as a professor from Bourgas State University and Director of Sofia’s 51st Secondary School. Oracle Academy was represented by Velina Topalova, Database Platform Sales Representative, and a strong supporter of the program.
According to Minister Valchev, teachers will use AI on the one hand for educating students, and on the other for assessment and administrative work. He recalled that last year, the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), with the help of ICT business experts, prepared guidelines on AI usage, which now, due to the pace of development, already need to be updated. The key formula for using artificial intelligence is that it is not just a tool, but a collaborator, Valchev emphasized.
Today’s students live in a world that will require even more complex skills, he believes. MES is about to organize a discussion on promoting the study of mathematics and natural sciences, he added.
“In addition to creating AI technologies, Oracle implements them in every activity it has and provides them to other companies,” Velina Topalova pointed out. “Education is our focus, and through our free Oracle Academy, we provide access to technology and educational content.”
The event was attended by nearly 140 representatives from regional education departments, school principals, teachers, university heads and lecturers, media, and IT companies with projects in the field of education.
