Oracle Academy was pleased to host a bootcamp for Sub-Saharan Africa educators on August 16, 2024. The bootcamp aimed to empower educators with the tools and resources needed to leverage Oracle Cloud and Oracle APEX for more innovative and impactful teaching.
The virtual bootcamp, moderated by Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Eastern Africa, brought together educators from across Sub-Saharan Africa who share a commitment to advancing education through technology. The event featured a dynamic mix of insightful sessions, hands-on workshops, teaching resources, and opportunities to connect with fellow educators and Oracle technology experts.
William Mcrae, Principal Instructor, Oracle Academy EMEA, introduced the educators to Oracle Academy’s free teaching resources, including Oracle Academy curriculum and learning pathways, Education Bytes, workshops and interactive tools, all designed to support high-quality technology education.
An Oracle APEX learning session was facilitated by Oracle Principal Solution Engineer Olagoke Orija. Educators learned practical ways to incorporate Oracle APEX into their database courses, which in turn will equip their students with career-ready, industry-relevant skills that could be applied immediately after graduation.
An Oracle Cloud learning session was facilitated by Oracle Senior Account Cloud Engineer Grace Gitaari. The practical session demonstrated how Oracle Cloud has the potential to advance lesson delivery, making teaching more engaging, interactive, and adaptable to the diverse needs of students.
Oracle Academy faculty members from Kenya and Nigeria, Madam Florence Kimani from Riara University and Mr. Mark Mensah from the University of Ghana, shared their member success stories, offering valuable insights and inspiration on how they successfully integrated Oracle Academy curriculum and Oracle technologies into their teaching practices, resulting in improved student engagement and outcomes.
Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa, gave the closing remarks, stating, “We deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and collaborative spirit shown by the educators whose commitment to enhancing education through technology is truly commendable, and we are confident that the teaching resources shared during the bootcamp will continue to make a lasting impact in classrooms across the region.”
