To commemorate the 2026 International Girls in ICT Day, Oracle Academy participated in an event organized by the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) on June 10, 2026, at Lagos City College in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. W.TEC is a nonprofit organization that provides technology education for women and girls in Nigeria. Themed ‘Girls in ICT: Designing Inclusive Solutions for Our Communities’, under the overarching theme of youth and technological advancement, the three-hour program featured a dynamic mix of insightful talks, hands-on innovation challenges, and holistic wellness sessions. The impactful event gathered over 100 girls from eight secondary schools in Lagos.

International Girls in ICT Day is a day set aside annually by the UN to inspire a global movement and increase the representation of girls and women in technology. This is in line with Oracle Academy’s global mission of advancing technology education, skills, innovation, equity, and inclusion. The event was designed to connect girls in STEM with successful women in ICT to help them mold their tech dreams to become reality, broadening their horizons and encouraging them to be more intentional in considering and pursuing careers in ICT.

Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub Saharan Africa, delivered the keynote address, titled ‘AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future,’ where she emphasized the critical role young women will play in navigating and building the future of artificial intelligence across Africa and beyond.
