Oracle Academy and Stichting Praktijkleren (The Association of Practical Learning) together ran a Knowledge Builder session with teachers at the Oracle office in Utrecht, The Netherlands, on March 9, 2023.
Stichting Praktijkleren supports regional training centers in the field of in-school and out-of-school work-based learning. Its motto is ‘from, for and by the educational sector’, and was created through teacher regional training centres (ROCs) and now closely collaborates with teachers in the field.
In The Netherlands, 42 regional training centers for secondary vocational education (98% of the total number nationwide) are members of Stichting Praktijkleren. The organization strives for accessible, affordable, and practical education for everyone. It achieves this objective by compiling practice-oriented materials together with the schools. This makes it possible for everyone to follow challenging vocational education that seamlessly meets the needs of the students, but also of the current labor market.
At the event, Mark Hector, Project Manager, Educational Resources, and Hans Blankendaal, Relationship Manager at Stichting Praktijkleren, showed the teachers what they can expect from the Oracle Academy program in terms of Diploma Comparison & Curriculum Mapping and how they can integrate Oracle Academy teaching resources into their own teaching. They explained how to find the available content on the Oracle Academy Member Hub.
They also highlighted the workshop Solve it with SQL that introduces databases to beginners, challenging students to play the role of a superhero and solve a series of crimes using a cloud-based database development environment.
Arjan Verlaan, Principal Account Cloud Engineer, Oracle, held a presentation on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Cloud overview. He gave an introduction to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and explained why OCI is “the best kept secret” that brings more innovation to customers.
The teachers received insight on OCI’s unique, security-first architecture, global locations and region comparison, OCI’s core tenets, and how modern application development is done in OCI.
Christian Rokitta, APEX Development Team, Oracle, gave a presentation and held a demo on “Creating a Database Application in APEX.” He gave an introduction into Oracle APEX, a low-code development platform that enables users to build scalable and secure enterprise apps with world-class features that can be deployed anywhere. He also ran a demo on transforming spreadsheets into web apps in minutes, Application Development, Modernizing Oracle Forms, and extending Enterprise Systems.
Bob Peulen, Data Science Technical Specialist, Oracle, gave a presentation on Data-Driven Sports. He taught the teachers all about data-driven successes in sports such as SailGP, the Premier League, and of course Oracle Red Bull Racing. He explained how the partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing is driven by data and how Oracle’s technology is involved in race strategy, young driver development, engine development and fan experience.
Debbie Boetzkes, Program Manager, Oracle Academy, presented the curriculum and resources available through the Oracle Academy program. In the overview, she showcased which specific learning resources provided by Oracle Academy were related to each previous presentation, such as Java, database and cloud curriculum; the Oracle Academy Cloud Program; Oracle APEX; Oracle Red Bull Racing Oracle Academy Education Bytes hands-on labs, and much more.
Thank you to the Oracle team for sharing their experience and knowledge with the teachers and to Mark and Hans from Stichting Praktijkleren for continuing to showcase Oracle Academy to its network of teachers.
