Business computing and data analytics students at Middlesex University, Mauritius, explored the role of vector databases in the AI era during a guest lecture supported by Oracle Academy. The session gave Year 2 students practical insight into how database technologies can help power semantic search and intelligent applications.
Oracle experts Purushotam Jankee, Master Principal Account Cloud Engineer, and Rahul Sharma, Principal Account Cloud Engineer, led the discussion. They shared examples and explained how Oracle supports AI across on-premises environments, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and multicloud deployments. Students also learned how native vector capabilities, security, and guardrails can help organizations develop trusted AI solutions.
The event complemented the students’ database studies and highlighted the value of connecting academic learning with industry experience. Middlesex University Mauritius also recognized students who completed the Oracle Academy Database Foundations course and received Oracle Academy course completion certificates. The course helps learners build essential database design and SQL skills through hands-on activities.
